My question on this.

My automotive maintenance shop stated that electric cutouts melt sometimes? WTF? I couldn't even google this response...

He may have meant the motor/wires but MANY have had no issues with this. The DMH units are very well built and the customer service (at least for me) has been GREAT.

The cutout on my GN is right at the end of the downpipe, 'bout 3' away from a VERY HOT turbo and I haven't had any issues, I do figure that pipe would melt the wires to the cutout pretty quick though.

I'm considering getting the QTP cut-out, but just have a couple of questions....

#1. Where is the best place to install these? A friend of mine said the best place would be at the end of the "I" pipe. Being that I would still need the back pressure.

#2. These would be installed on a stock corvette exhaust, what size should I order?

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, I just thought there would be more people who already owned this system in here. I heard they're great!!! Especially here in Clovis, California. The police do pull over anyone and everyone with a stock exhaust system, not just the Honda's anymore. Figured that if I get these, when an officer pulls me over for the noise, I'll just close them and hopes he doesn't look under the car...lol

1) where ever you have the room. Most people do not have any place to put them without interfering with ground clearance until you get back under the transmission.

2) 2.5 inch, I would look at the DMH cutouts since you can essentially weld them onto the side of the pipe, and their oval openings do not impact ground clearance.

Cool deal, thanks!!! I'm debating on whether to get a cut out or a full cat-back exhaust. Friends think I should get the exhaust, but I don't like my car being loud all the time. I drive from Fresno to Los Angeles about once a month, and when I had my Supra (it had a 3" exhaust) it got a little annoying...lol. Hence why I'm leaning more towards the cut out. I wonder the difference in HP would be between the cut out and exhaust.

For me it was a no brainer. With my 3.5 low pro DMH cutout open it makes a B&B bullet or SLP Loudmouth sound like a baby. With them closed I can hear my high end sound system with perfect clarity or I can hear my date talking without her having to yell. Too easy

Plus it is really cool when a harley or some other muscle car pulls up and revs you to hit the open switch and nail it.The look on thier face is priceless, it is like letting the tiger out of its cage. Also you will pick up HP/TQ with cutouts. Some H/C cars pick up 10-15 at the wheels. A really good flowing exhaust like SLP LM or borla straights will get you 5hp.

Trust me, save your money and do the cutouts. I put them on and still run my Z06 Ti mufflers. There is less than 5 rwhp difference with my cutout open to closed and I make just under 500 rwhp. I would get a nice set of Ti mufflers from a Z06 and put on the cutouts and save a couple hundred dollars over any catback. I personally have been through a few exhausts and this is now my prefered setup.

I've had my QTP's for several years and really love 'em. Nothing like being able to go mild to wild at the push of a button. They sound awesome and I tend to run with them open more often than not.

Custom switch box I made to replace the ashtray

Tony Mamo got very creative in his install

I'm new to all this exhaust stuff, and was doing a little research. When I first heard cat-back exhaust, I thought that included the "H" pipe, but it does not. The SLP and Borla systems I was looking at connect to the end of the "H" pipe, so here's my idea. Being I can only afford one or the other (for now) just to purchase the DHM cut out and have it installed on my "H" pipe, and then buy the exhaust later. That's if my reasoning is correct.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, or feel free to add your input.

That's fine - just remember that if you buy an x-pipe with the catback to replace the h-pipe you'll need to get the cutouts rewelded.

Best of luck - you'll have fun with the cutouts.
