Default rear differential seal leak

I own a 2001 zo6 with a DTE stage 2 differential.3 months after my local Performance shop installed it a leak occured at passenger side axle shaft seal. They have replaced seal 3 times in a effort to stop the leak. Also replaced side cover with new seals. New shaft.Still leaks.Any suggestions on how to solve the leak problem would greatly be appreciated.

And how do the seals look when removed? Are they damaged in some way precipitating the leak?

It sound to me like the shop hasn't found where the leak is really coming from. Why did they replace the shaft? Did it show wear where the seal rides? It's a stretch, but I would have them check the case vent for damage or blockage.

Regards,

Eric D

Ok, so where exactly is the leak coming from. If the shaft itself is undamaged, the seal is not damaged....how does the leak occur? ..provided their is no pressure build up in the case.

no damage noticed, they suggested installing a sleeve over shaft to make seal tighter on shaft.Labor cost is getting expensive over this leak trying to fix.

Ok, so the halfshaft has a groove worn in it, and it won't seal. What am I missing here?

it seems like the leak occurs after car is driven and parked.no blowby on undercarriage.shop says it is coming directly from seal .

What shaft? The seal rides on the half shaft, is that what they replace? Any vibration? Did they install the DTE fluid, which is a special mixture of Redline 75W-140? Were the break-in procedures followed?

Has the vent been checked for proper operation? If you are building pressure it will exit the weakest area, which may that seal.

Most important, have you contacted Phil at DTE? He is most knowledgeable on his setups and would have been the first person I would contact. He can likely point you to the problem or what to look for, and it may still have some warranty left on it if you haven't raced it.

I contacted phil,he also sent a new seal.said they could be dammaging seal on install. It is a 5 hour drive one way to dte.I bought the differential from DTE early summer, did proper breakin.no racing.just a daily driver. The shop that installed the differential called DTE also.Im not trying to say phil is no help,i was trying to get leak fixed without taking back to dte.as i stated a 5 hour drive one way.

If you clean it well, can you isolate the leak the axle seal (i.e., confirm the cover is OK). With the differential in the car, correct installation of that seal would be hard but not impossible so it could just be a bad installation.
