I recently purchased a 2000 C5 Manual Vette. It has the following mods; Texas Speed Magic Stick 3 Cam, Blackwing SLP intake, LG Headers, No CATS, Borla Stinger, LS6 Intake, BBK Throttle Body and an extremely well done tune. The car puts down 412 RWHP. I failed inspection for the following reason;
1) Oxygen Sensors: Not Ready (I believe these were tuned out)
2) Secondary Air Injection: Not Ready
3) Evaporative System: Not Ready
Prior to going to my inspection station my check engine light was on, pulling the code P0101 "Mass or Volume Circuit Range Perf. Problem". I then reset the code unaware you need to drive the car to get eveything into the ready state.
My question is how do I prevent the P0101 code from turning the engine light on and how do I get the "Secondary Air Injection" and "Evaporative System" from the Not Ready state to the Ready State????? Later today I am going to do a visual inspection of the engine bay for any loose fuel lines. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
When you reset the P0101, you also reset ALL of the readiness monitors.
You need to drive the car quite a bit after a code reset (or battery disconnect) before these tests will show ready status.
You likely don't have an evap or AIR problem. but they are showing not ready due to the recent code reset.
Bottom line is you need to fix the P0101 in order to pass, and that means getting the car to a tuner.
P0101 is pretty common code for a big cam car, and it's a tuning fix that needs to be done in order to eliminate it. (Tuner need to radically up the "MAF rationality test" table values).
Thanks for all the input thus far. Knowing I have a big cam and assuming the car was tuned properly how would I go about getting rid of the "P0101" Code from the Check engine. I was thinking of taking off the Blackwing Air intake and installing the stock Air Intake system to see if this will prevent the code. I searched the forums and it seems the Blackwing has set off a lot of the P0101 codes. Any further input?
as Y2K mentioned if the car was tuned right there would not be the code P0101. So back to the tuner
Car needs to go to a tuner, not just shut off the code. Blackwing, v-ram or any after market CAI or LT or what ever parts, the car needs to be tuned properly.
The air intake won't make a bit of difference for this code.
The P0101 code usualy occurs with big cam cars that pull a lot of air in, yet have little manifold vacuum. It probably occurs most in light throttle conditions.
The PCM does a cross-check comparison of MAF and MAP values, and when the two become strikingly different from expected, this code results.
It's the PCM's way of saying the reported MAF values are not believable, but it's the cam that's essentially contusing the PCM.
Dropping in a huge cam dramatically affects manifold pressure while the reported MAF values remain true...this is the conflict, and what needs to get "fixed" and tuning is the only way to fix it. You need to tell the PCM that MAP<>MAF values can disagree by X amount and not throw this code. (That's the most basic way I can describe it).
Alright guys you have pursuaded me to have my car re-tuned. I purchased the car like this and I have no idea who did the first tune. I must say the car runs very well. As I live in NJ the 2 nearest tuners I know of are East Coast Supercharging (Great guys my bro's vette was tuned there) and TT Performance (Also great guys 2 of my friends had there C6s tuned there). I am thinking TT as they are only 20 minutes. Will call them tomorrow first thing. Thanks for all the help Y2Kvert4me and AU N EGL. Happy Holidays!
Do yourself a favor and print out this thread. You don't need your car re-tuned, just a minor adjustment. The thing that needs to be fixed will not in anyway affect how your car runs...all you are "fixing" is the internal PCM diagnostic logic that triggers this particular code.
Since you bought the car like this, I only hope your PCM isn't locked. ECS can surely set you straight, not familiar with TT.
I live in Albany NY... Anyone know of a good tuner up this way??? I am having a problem with my idle. IT is supposed to have a CCam Motion cam in it...
New Era is on Rochester. If you want to travel east, the Slowhawk Performance is about three hours away (might be less risk from a weather standpoint )
