After switching from GM syncromesh to Pennzoil Dexron III, and seeing a big difference in shifting feel; I of course wanted more, more, more.
So, I just decided to pop the 9-year-old shifter out and give it a good oiling. It felt pretty sticky, and I could see gummy lube on the sliding rod. Not sure what to use, I opted to try the GM super lube 12346241.
It sprays on thin and washes out all the old goo, but then dries to a light white PTFE grease.
I sprayed the heck out of the pivot point, lower bushing, and the slider rod, wiped off the drippings, and popped it back in and adjusted it.
Well, it worked! Another major step towards shifting Heaven.
After the lube set up overnight, it felt even better!
I know I'm gonna have to eventually get an aftermarket unit, but so far I'm happy with the positive results I've gotten. I'm sure there's some placebo effect here, but it truly feels like new now.
