Default stock air intake install problems

I'm trying to put on a stock air intake system on my C5Z. I got everything done except for connecting the air tube into the air box. I cannot for the life of me get the thing on. They both seem to be the exact same size and no matter what I've tried so far, nothing works. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I figured it would just slip right in, tighten the clamp down and be done. For some reason, this is kicking my butt. Can anyone help or have pictures to show me the correct way? Thanks.

Hmm - let's make sure you have the parts in the correct order;

Back to front - throttle body / engine > rubberized plastic accordian > plastic air bridge > MAF > stock air box.

The other possibility is you have an 97-2000 air box with a 2001 + MAF. The older MAF / airbox combo is 74MM, the new one 85MM.

Try spraying some window cleaner on the parts where they mate. The cleaner is a lubricant, and it will evaporate in short time.

If your not removing the COMPLETE air box for filter service, you doing your self a disfavor. The complete air box comes out SO easy. Remove the wire connections, the AIR pump hose, loosen the clamp on the TB and pop the front end of the air box off the two ball studs mounted on the front frame cross member. I use my hand to pop it off but the first time you pop it off, you may need to use something to help dislodge it off the ball studs.

Once its out, its a snap to service and it installs just as easy. Like joeflyer recommended, use some soap and if it cold where you are, heat the water up and dink the rubber slip on end in the warm water to get it plyable.

Did you get the black plastic 90 degree elbow?
That connects the air tube hose and the rubber grommet on the drivers side of the air filter assembly. If not, you can get one from any GM parts supplier or even the hardware choice in the plumbing department.
