Default Stock Head Porting??

I have a 2002 with AR headers, K&N Intake, Plugs Wires, 160 therm, catback and Custom Tunes.
I am going next week to get 224/224 114 cam, FAST Intake Manifold & TBody, Stage 3 clutch, Shifter, fluids and what ever else you might suggest.
My Question is Can you get the Stock Heads Ported and if so how much power can be gained from this.
Thanks for Your opions and I am open to any performance or tech tips

Yes you can get your stock LS1 heads ported.
Is it worth it? I dont know the answer to that question. The Fast intake wont give you much more performance on your stock LS1 heads though, as everything I've read about the Fast is your gains are mostly in the upper RPM range (5500+)

I would think that for the price of porting your stock heads you could buy some used LS6 heads and they would flow better and make more power.

I know you are asking about porting your stock heads, but if it were me, I would skip the Fast intake & TB - go with a modified LS6 intake from TPIS, an LS2 TB and LS6 heads and you will like your "seat-of-the-pants" power curve a lot more.

Best of success with your project

If you're thinking of porting the 853's forget about it, not worth it at all. The 241's can be made to flow almost as well as the 243's with the right porting. Cartek is one of the companies that uses the 241's with pretty good success. If I remember correctly, Nickolbag is running ported 241's on his car and is going 11.20's on his stock bottom 346.

a 2002 LS1 has 241 heads right?

But Yeh Cartek does a good job of getting 241s to flow well, but at what cost?

I really dont know.

The 243 heads do just fine for what you intend to do.

We offer ported heads starting at $1745 for our 2X on core exchange basis. This includes the following:

+ Porting of the intake to 2X spec
+ Porting of the exhaust to 2X spec
+ Chamber are completely gone through
+ Serdi Raduis cut valve job (higher the 5 angle)
+ Milled to spec (depth of cut depends on application)
+ Valves(Dimensions depend on application)
+ Dual Springs
+ Titanium retainers
+ Keepers
+ Steel locators
+ Springs installed to spec (Depends on camshaft being used)

Our 4X head(uses a 243 casting) is $2045 with core exchange and has been on some of the fastest and quickest NA Corvettes in the country. Cartek's Head work always seems to make it to the top of many "FAST" lists on many different forums.

If you have any questions feel free to call.

Thanks,
Maxwell Hormilla

forget about 853's. I went 11.20s(the car had 11.0s in it but the driver didnt ) with ported 241s and and a Cartek 2X cam(224/228 .590) on an ls6 intake and 4.10s. Now with the addition of the Fast 90 I hope to eventually get into the 10s on the 241s and small cam.

That being said if you are going to port some stock heads strongly consider picking up a set of 243s for a few hundred bucks to port. Which one you port depends on your goals or if you are buying new or used but you definitly dont want to do it twice. 241s can perform very well but 243s will always make a little more power. (assuming equal port work)

Dont know that you should bother with LS1 heads, definitely dont need a huge 240@.050 cam to make good power with these cars either. Stick with the size you are looking at. How much do you have to spend on all this, allotments for headwork, etc?
