Default Coupe top Adjustments?

I recently took my vette in for a full paint job. I wasn't able to drop it off so a friend did it for me. After a week or so i called and the car was nearly finished, except the top. i asked why the top took longer, and they told me they hadn't finished repairing it. It seems they thought the indention in the top was a dent and they tried to fix it, breaking the top in the process.

they then proceeded to purchase a new top for me from the dealership, had it painted and gave it to me. This top does not fit well at all. It sit about a 1/4 inch low all over, and is hard to lock into place. It is below the windshild and the rear both. Is there any type of adj that i can't find. I looked all over and can't seem to find anyting.

thanks

Dom

The latch strikers on the windshield header are adjustable. Pull the header trim back and you will see that each striker has two bolts. Loosen the outboard bolt and slightly loosen the inboard bolt. Pivot the striker on the inboard bolt up or down as needed.

If you are unfamiliar with the adjustment take it back to the body shop. There are three adjustments the two striker as the above poster stated and the rear hook. It can be difficult the first time to get it right let the pro do it they have many hands to assist. Best of luck!
I cant believe they tried to fix the original top

Then after i found out its should be in the roof i bought it..Man i felt DUMB!!.. But you would think a body shop should have seen this befor..Duhhhh.

You mean the same "pros" that thought the contour of the removable top was a dent?

Yeah that is who I mean.. They screwed it up were paid to fix it correctly how they gonna learn if you go somewhere else and pay all over again. Equal chance that the next pro will screw it up odds are in his favor they coudn't screw it up twice ... right? and if they do fix it again until it is right... only there is no more money you was already paid

I installed a new roof recently; so I kinda remember the adjustment process. Easier to do than explain; obvious once you look at it.

1. If the rear is not proper height, or it does not slide easily into the rear pin locators, then they must be adjusted. The big plastic cover under the top bow must be removed - pretty straightforward, pull-pins and velcro. Then just loosen the locators and slide them around a bit until the roof pins slide in just right. Check final alignment looking from the rear across the roof bow. Don't reinstall the big plastic cover until you're sure all is correct.

2. As stated above, for the front, loosen the striker bolts on the windshield header, and slide the inner side of the striker up or down to raise/lower the striker a bit. You may also need to re-position the handles on the roof, so they slide into the striker holes properly. The closed handle should also clear the striker edge by approx 2mm, so it does not rub or squeak. Also, the handle should be parallel to the roof edge when closed. Adjust the handle by removing the little snap-in cover on the handle, and reach through with the torx bit to loosen the screws. It's pretty obvious when you look at it.

3. The rear latch handle can be adjusted by loosening the hook set-screw with an allen wrench, and screwing/turning the hook in/out as required.

4. You may need to raise/lower the side windows. The window stops are adjusted with a #6 torx socket (or a 3/16 socket works okay), reaching up through the door-bottom rubber plugs (dexterity required).

5. Adjust all levers so you get that firm Snap when they close, but no too hard.

Note, the actual ride height of the front of the roof cannot really be adjusted, as it just sits on the weatherstrip. If you loosen the handles it willl leak. So the only way to raise it would be to somehow raise the weatherstripping. My glass top rides noticeably lower than the painted top, because it is thinner.

good luck,
DG
