Default Radio/Speaker Problem Solved

A few years ago while the car was still under warranty, I had a problem with my right rear speaker. It either didn't work or would emit static noise, which oddly enough would not even respond to the volume control. The Stealer$hip replaced the radio head-unit and the problem went away for a few years. Recently, it re-appeared for exactly the same speaker. At about the same time, the radio also started to pick up interference from the engine; a high-pitched sound that would vary with the RPMs. I refused to believe that I could have two bad radio head-units that would develop identical problems, so inspired by posts on this site detailing various electrical issues, I decided to look at the connecting plugs to the radio. Even though I couldn't visually spot a problem, I still went through and bent all the gripping parts of the connectors to make them grip the pins at the back of the radio tighter. Voila, suddenly my speaker works again and the engine interference has disappeared On the downside, I found out that when the radio was replaced, it was replaced with a re-manufactured unit dating back to 2000, while the original was a, probably perfectly good, 2001 unit It just goes to show that even when the car is under warranty, you might not want to take it to the Stealer$hip.
