Default Heads Question

Would a set of #853 casting with 918 springs for $100 bucks be worth buying for modding purposes ?

What would you need them for? I dont see why you would need them so I'd say not worth it.

To have them ported, polished, new valves..... Are the 853 castings worth buying ?

This way I can mod the heads and keep my car running....

I think it will be close to a wash. The machine work is very expensive. There is a set of Patriot heads (243's) used for $800 with low miles in the parts section.

I wouldn't waste your time porting 853s. Get 241s or 243s if you plan on porting stock heads.

I thought 853's and 241's were basically the same, just one is sand cast. I wasn't sure though so didn't post.

I agree with Lucky, you need to figure out how much you will have into them when you are done and then trade that against other options. While $100 looks cheap, bad guides, etc. could add up. Also, I think the LS2 heads from GM are pretty cheap to start with brand new.

I wouldn't recommend wasting much money at all on 853 castings.
