They are parking brakes, not "e-brakes" and should last the life of the car. When correctly adjusted, the brake handle should have 11 clicks for full engagement.
I understand that in an ideal world the brakes shoes should only contact the drum when parked and therefore should never wear but the fact is my drums/rotor has a very small lip and this empedes proper adjustment. Mine will hold at about 9 clicks. Thanks for the feedback
It just sounded like a nice odd number to pull out of my azz.
Would you like the volume, section, and page number?
Unfortunately, there are no "magic" click numbers according to volume 1, section 5, page 5-105 for park brake adjustment. It simply says to adjust star nut so that when the drums and wheels are placed back on the raised car the wheel will not rotate forward and may have a slight drag when rotating rearward. There's a special tool, J-21177-A that is used to measure the inside diameter of the widest point of the drum portion of the brake rotor. Then you measure the outside diameter of the park brake shoes widest point. It also say that if the gap between the adjuster nut and adjuster screw exceeds 5mm, the park brake shoe must be replaced.
