Default Ideas please?

so my car is in the shop for some warranty work. we think it has rod knock. but when you give the motor gas to bring up the revs the noise gets loud right away and then goes away. which rod knock should get louder with the revs. Correct?

I daily drive my car in the nicer months, its a street car but I do bring it to the drag strip also.

so anyways the warranty company is going to pay for the fix, and said I can put anything in the motor as long as I make up the difference in price.

anyone have any ideas of what to do upgrade wise. pistons? rods? cam? valve train? etc...

right now the engine has ported heads w/ a small cam. not sure on the specs though. it making 405 rwhp right now. Also the car has a DTE stage 4 diff with 3.90 gears. I want to keep the motor I have now so no motor swap unless they decide to just replace the whole motor, which would be nice

also im not looking to out a shot on the car or any other kind of power adder. just all motor. I would like to try a get somewhere between 460-480rwhp

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

also thread posted in the ZO6 section

thanks

As always, what dictates the responses you will receive, is how much you have to spend.........

true very true, ill have some where around 3000-3500 to spend

but I only have to make up the difference in cost from the stock parts to the after market ones. and labor isnt an issue in cost

I have that money to play though, but still would like to keep it as cheap as possible with out sacrificing reliablity, while still trying to get as close to my power goal as I can 460-480rwhp.

if im not being realistic please let me know and let me know what is

thanks

make sure to deduct money for a tune out of your budget as well, unless the place the car is currently at also does tunes.

thanks for the tip but already thought of that

forgot to mention that though , labor is also taken out of my budget

all that is already subtracted from my budget so parts is the main concern now, just dont know what to do

A better cam will wake that motor up. If your going to change the cam, the usual stuff applies (change timing set, oil pump)...maybe upgrade balancer.... If you want to get close to 500RWHP, I'm thinking your compression is going to have to come up.

Also, you could pick up a forged rotating assembly....

Why not talk to the guys at LG, England Green, ECS, etc. about a cam/head combo that will suit your needs?

Don't shoot the messenger, but ................................. I doubt you are going to get anywhere near 460 at the wheels given that budget. Sorry; just my opinion.

If you go with cam be sure to replace your lifters. I had a stock Z06 lifter fail me with the G5x-3 cam.

If I were in your shoes I'd build up the bottom for a very reliable forced induction future. You know once you reach that 4xx rwhp goal you're just going to set another goal and then another....

..... JK

no I appreciate any input I want to know if im being realistic or not

what do you think is possible?

o yeah I work at the dealer that is doing the work and will get everything discounted but the warranty company wont know that
so that will help a little bit with money, not sure how though, but everything helps

im leaning towards going with the MS4 cam and putting forged internals in the motor. if I were to do this what else would I have to do besides upgrading the oil pump?

also im going to keep the heads I have now, they are ported. I know they will need upgraded springs. any suggestions on which ones? and what lift they will need? anything else that would need to be dont that Im missing?

thanks

A little off topic, but I have to know the name of the warranty company. I would like a warranty company that would honor a modified engine.

one more thing they knew the car was modded when I bought and said they would cover it anyways. So im not sure if its the fact that they knew it was modded and said they would warranty the work, or the fact that they dont look that hard. Also I would have to say it would depend on how good your mechanic is at talking them into it

they are pretty slow though at getting things done though

it took them 4 months until they repleaced my trans. it was winter but thats besides the point. they'll put up a fight to try not warranty anything, like most companies would do anyways.

I just went this route! I went with a home ported FAST 90 with a home ported 90 mm LS2 TB, 42 lb injectors, Patroit stage II heads, Englandgreen whiplash cam (close to a G5x4 cam), Caddy racing lifters, new tune, Powerbond damper, LS2 Timing chain, Melling oil Pump,

The car already had stainlessworks headers, 3" exhaust system and high flow cats and a vararam. I was making 390 rwhp 375 tq with that stuff.

With all that NEW stuff added, Im at 450 rwhp and my stock zo6 clutch is NOT happy. It slips like a bitch under full throttle, so Im guessing im making well over 400 ft/lbs of tq.

Your garage will add all that stuff?? That would be cool if they would!

Dont forget, you WILL need a new clutch!

no problem with the new clutch have a McCleod twin disc in it, also already have the injectors, timing chain and pulley.

so from what you said I would still need to get the fast manifold, throttle body, heads and cam, lifters.

I found a guy with a set of AFR 205's that hes going to trade me for my ported heads and cash hopefully

so I should be pretty close to my goal of of 460-480 rwhp, I hope

yep my work is going to add everything to it
