Default Want Undetectable Head / Cam upgrade

I am looking for the ultimate sleeper setup. I have a 98 Vette with the 853 heads. I have put an LS6 ported intake and TB, Vararam, and LG Pro headers (with cats). Now I am looking at engine mods, but I want the heads to LOOK original and I want the cam to SOUND original.

What are my options? And what kind of power can I expect?

all heads look normal....but if you want a cam that sounds stock...you need to stick with a pretty small one...and dont expect much power

Ummm, no. If I put 243's you can see the casting number with the hood open. If I put AFR's, they look completely different. etc.

My brother had a 2001 camaro, 2002-2004 LS6 Cam, ported 243's and supporting mods, put down 387/377 and ran 11.9's all day long.. full weight ~3600lb car. I'd say get your heads ported and pick up a used ls6 cam/springs.. next step would be like a 224/224 or I know Speed Inc. has a grind called the SI007 sleeper cam.. supposed to put some good numbers down

Have the 843's ported, then put in a sleeper cam like the GT2-3 or a ZO6 cam or something. Won't be a HUGE improvement, but will be an improvement. As for power, depending on the setup and cam, you can probably expect in the upper 300's while still sounding like a stock car.

So let me get this straight....You want the car to be a sleeper, but you installed long tube headers. You want a cam with more performance, but it should not be detectable to the ear.

Just throw a gear in it, and call it a day.

LOL

I didn't get the headers and desire to appear stock either. Perhaps he's going for a 'lightly modded' appearance so when he stomps on people they don't think he's bsing.

then get ported Patriot 243's. and yes...add a 4.10 gear. I have one and love it

Yeah, it's kind of stupid to NOT upgrade the heads for a tiny casting mark, when you have headers! If you go with budget 5.3s or 243s you'll get better results.

Casting numbers? The first thing I would notice is the headers

Your best bet to be a sleeper would be to go with a SuperCharger.

You could get the SQ (Super Quiet) trim and throw a little B@@ST at it for the same price of a H/C swap.

If sleepr is what you want then you wont pop your hood for someone to see your headers. If you put 8 PSI of B@@ST on your motor now you will be very close to 500 RWHP and still remain with full streetability and it'll sound stock (well it will be except for the SuperCharger)

It really is a good option and the LS1 can take 8 PSi of B@@St with ease

Might want to go over to the FI section here and ask a few questions and look at a couple of kits or call one of our vendors A&A, ECS, ATI etc.

IMHO! I'd do it

Thanks,Matt

I seriously doubt that anyone is going to notice the number on the head. Get a set of 243's and have a "professional" valve job and blending done on them. Run a softer lobed cam in the mid teens with beehive springs. Set your lifter preload to .090.

People think my car is stock.

Something tells me a vortech or procharger might catch someone's eye faster than a stamping on the head.....

243's (used 02+ Z06 heads with lighter valves)
LS6 intake
CAI unit
LPE GT2-3
Good behive springs
Hardened pushrods
Yella Terra rockers (keeps tapping down, reliability)
Underdrive pulley (did I just say that!?! :0 )
DTE 3.90's
A good PCM tune

Works for me, to the tune of 375RWHP / 365RWTQ.

Default saw this and had to visit

saw this and was laughing inside....did I miss something? You have a CORVETTE yet want it to be a sleeper? hmmmmmm These 2 words just don't go together. Now if you had say an older non muscle related car I could definitely see that. I think when it comes to vettes you really mean your looking to modify your car to be faster but yet not be full blown obvious and annoying that it's got race car bolt on's added to it. Like Lucky stated though....you already did the headers. Surely that alone is enough for your car to say quite loudly....hey Iam modded over here. Add a cam to that that has any kind of lope to it at all and your going to be noticed. Same thing goes with a supercharger. These pieces as quiet as you would like them to be can still be pretty easily detected. Good luck and I say....heck just do what you want, why put restrictions on your car? So what if they know you got something. Shoot that's half the fun of it....with a corvette people sort of expect you do anyway!

I wouldn't waste the time and money to not get much power just so I could be sneeky. If you want to be sneeky, hide a nitrous kit on it.

Thunder racings Cheater cam and a hidden dry shot, you will have people second guessing your car all day. that and put a drag radial on your stock wheels!

Sounds like someone trying to fudge(cheat) rules or other folks.........as in my nearly "stock" vette can beat your highly modded ride
