I just changed prior to putting car up for winter. I can't answer your question, but I did look into the oil a lot prior to deciding on Amsoil. I use Mobil-1 in three of my other cars (not Vette's) and used to use Redline in my other Vette. I went with Amsoil because it is the same base as Redline but has been thoroughly tested to GM and others specifications. Redline is not tested to GM 4718M and is not licensed by API. Also, they do not make their own additive package, I read somewhere that it is the "76" additive package. 76 does carry an API license. I went with the 5W-30, not the newer 0W-30 Series 2000. Also, changed tranny and rear. Tranny does shift smoother since the change. Don't think you can go wrong with Amsoil. If your car is under warranty, like mine, consider something tested to and that meets the GM specification.
I have been using Amdoil 2000 since 100 miles. Never uses a drop of oil. I wouldn't use anything else. The car is 27 months old, 11000 miles.
I've been to the strip about 15 times, running 5 or 6 times each trip. That kind of use is hard on rings, oil, etc. The next morning when I check the oil it is exactly on the line where it was before I went.
I switched to Amsoil and it seems to be working great! Went with the 0W-30 Series 2000. Don't think you can go wrong with either Amsoil or Redline.
Amsoil is a great synthetic lubricant to use in your C5. Use the Series 2000 lubs. Don't worry about the 0W-30 oil. It can be used in a ALL temperature situations.
I use Amsoil in all my vehicles and it has been in the family since the late 70s. This really good stuff. Expensive though.
I do use the larger oil filter that does extend past the oil pan about an inch or so. I have NO problems with clearence on this oil filter. However; if you lower your C5 I would be careful.
Amsoil makes the equivilent UPF44 filter and that is the SDF32. To use the longer oil filter it is the SDF64.
I too have been using the Series 2000 in my 2000 Vette along with all of my other vehicles. Did a lot of research before changing over and found that Amsoil is the best product available. Based on the test results, along with the way the products have performed in my vehicles I would not run anything else! I have also found that the SDF-64 filter works great on the Vette!
It may seem expensive at first, but even if you follow the oil life monitor, it can be reasonable. I change the filter only the first time the oil life monitor gets to about 15-20% and take an oil sample. The second time the oil life monitor gets to the 15-20% range, I change both the oil and the filter and take a sample for good measure. In the times that I have done this, the sample has come back every time suggesting that I do not change either the oil or the filter! I changed them anyway just for "good Measure".
I use the Series 2000 0W-30 in all of my vehicles with no problems! I also do not have an oil usage problem with my Vette with it. It really is your choice, but IMHO the Series 2000 is the best.
If you look at the 100 degree C viscosity of the 0W-30, you will find it better then a lot of 10W30 oils. The only reason I didn't use 0W30 is it is not listed as an option in the owner's manual. I have no qualms about the oil itself, but a strict interpretation of the owner's manual won't allow it and I was afraid of warranty issues. I think the oil is fine.
Correct SIR, I stand totally behind you with all my 150%convincing :smash: :smash: :smash: :seeya
And much more precisely: I drive the RED LINE 10W - 40 , for even better friction protection by unbeatable lubrication film strength (polyol-esther base stock = 100% synthetic). :yesnod:   .
How did you your purchase/ordering Finnish Vette? I had, sorry, have a very good business contact with a Company/Distributer in Sweden (JAERBLOOM). So I could order last year a good stock for all the fillings required for our ride.
Other poster: YES, the RED LINE Products are all fully API rated (engine Oil responds to API "SJ" plus "ACEA A3-96", ref SVC Manual, all other "syrups" reply to the requirements of GM as eg DEXRON). Important: GM spec Starburst 4718M is NOT an official Oil-qualification, but only somewhat house-internally. Also GM (re SVC manual) lists the clearance of usage of a 10W-40 weight and this is actually what I do for my "steamer" s heartblood.
Gawd....10W-40??? That's like syrup inside your motor.
They specify a 30W oil in the LS1 because the thinner oil will reach and lucricate the oil journals properly. I'd be careful using such a viscosity type of 40W oil.
Friction protection is via oil weight is nonsense in today's passenger cars. Friction protection is weighed on the quality of the oil not the viscosity. That's why Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 oil is the best oil. You have the best friction protection PLUS the startup power of a thinner weight oil.
You want MAX power??? Try Torco Oil's synthetic 0W-20 oil. That stuff is like the viscosity of water and can be used in passenger cars.
As a matter of fact Ford and Honda are specifing 0W-20 oils in their vehicles.
I don't know how you drive your car but, Very Hard driving in Very Hot climates don't like 5w30 oil. It lubes your motor like Water. Winter is a new situation..

Re: Opinions on Amsoil (SwissVette_Joe)
Redline oil is not API! Redline has not gained either API or GM4718M, they say that they would meet, will satisfy, is suitable for, etc. etc. No API, No 4718M.
