I'm narrowed my starting problem down to the key switch. To remove the key switch I understand that I will have to remove the console, and the driver knee bolster trim panel. I have a few questions that I hope some of you can answer.
There isn’t a write up on how to remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Is there any thing special about this that I should know?
Also, if I'm just going to follow the procedures (written up in this forum) on how to repair the contacts, do I have to reprogram the transmitters?
Thanx 8VETTE7. This should be all of the information I need to get the job done. It looks like most of the effort in this repair job will be getting the switch out of the dash. I'll post an update after the project is complete (hopefully sometime this week)
This is one that is almost worth going to the dealership to do. I to just replaced my key switch. It's not very difficult to get to the switch and remove it. Instructions are in the forum. I pulled the contacts off of the back of the switch and did the contact service that Bill C outlines on the electrical problem thread. My key switch was bad also. I took it to the dealership and let them change it because it had to be re-coded anyway. The total was $236.00.
The knee bolster just had a couple of screws and it comes right off.
