I have a 1997 Corvette with the electronic ajustable suspension option. I plan to replace the shocks with Billsteins.
I know replacing the socks with non-electronic billsteins will set off a warning code. Does any one know how to fix the warning for this particular year vette with this suspension?
I found a fix on this forum but I think it applied to the magnetic suspension, not the 1997 year version of electronic suspension. Has anyone here with the same year or suspension vette done this?
10 Ohm, 10 watt resistors from Radio Shack that you can solder into the chassis connector near each shock.
Purchase a simulator that makes the computer think you still have the electronic shocks
Go to a dealer or shop that has a Tech 2 and have them turn the feature off. For this you will need to disconnect the shock module before doing the delete with the tech 2. The module is located in the rear driverside compartment.
If you do a search on F45 or F45 Delete you will find a number of posts on this subject.
The simulators are the most money of the three. I think mid-america has them. I have a 97 as well and my plan is the resistors, the cheapest of the three. Nobody wants to buy the used f45 shocks so I see no reason not to cut the wires.
Have you thought of replacing your shocks with C6 ZO6 shocks? There a direct bolt in and work VERY WELL. You can get four new C6 shocks from Gene Culley for $240 I have them on my 02 ZO6 and they made an excellent handling improvement.
If your car is lowered, you may want to go with the Billsteins. They bottom out on cars that are really lowered a lot
Getting rid of that crappy F-45 suspension will be one of the best thing that you have done to the car in a LONG time! Get some ZO6 or Z-51 sway bars and you will enjoy it even more.
ditto the c6 z06...when i had my 00 frc, i called a vendor and bought the shocks, swaybars, bushings.....the car felt like a go cart...it cornered with zero lean..took bumps with ease and made the car feel like a race car..by far the best bang for the buck...go with the c6 z06 shocks.
