Anyone with one of these installed I was wondering what your thoughts were about it. Have you noticed a difference? Is it worth it? I get wheel hop do you think this will help reduce it at all? Header install coming soon so it would make sense to throw this in at the same time.
thanks!
Save your money and order a C6 tunnel plate from Gene at GM Partshouse.
It is approx 1/8" thick aluminum and at least twice as thick as the stock one. While not as thick as the aftermarkets, to me the saved $ are more important. The noticeable difference for me was that my removeable roof stopped creaking after I installed it.
If I do a C6 one is there someone that sells insulation to put over over it does is come with it on already? Or at that point is it just better to get an aftermarket one?

You could have it ceramic coated. I have 3 C6 plates that I am going to rivit together and ceramic coat (myself), 3/8" plate
I actually scored a good thicker ceramic coated one on ebay! It's in now as long as the headers. I can't believe how thin and crappy the stock one was!
They reduce a lot of heat. And with headers they're almost a necessity in my book.
I agree headers produce alot of heat that end up in the cabin.
This is a cheap way to stay cooler. ( order the ceramic coated
plate, well worth the money ) Plus it's easy with the stock
headers off but there are a lot of nuts!!!!!!

The thread also questioned if the tunnel plate would help with wheel hop. In my experience it will do little; however, a DTE transmission brace will help greatly. It eliminated mine totally. Cheers

I think that might be installed in the near future.
I plan to take my factory plate to the local machine shop and have them use it for a pattern and cut out a new one for me with 1/4". I may shoot it with some coating of sorts, but probably not. I think the extra thickness of the metal will help with the heat some.
-Side Note- I wraped my pipes with header wrap from the header collectors to about 1.5 - 2 ft. back on the intermediate pipe and that helped with the heat substantially.

It bolts right up and costs about $68 shipped.
Put mine on about two years ago. I also put the aluminum heat stuff I had left over from doing the inside of the car up in the tunnel when I had it open.
I used Elite Engineering's ceramic coated steel plate, and it lowered the heat transfer to the passenger compartment and it tightened up the frame alot. The car felt more steady on uneven road, going over manholes, etc.
Well worth it.
