Default HUD Freaking Out

'04 C5 HUD is going nuts. All elements lit all the time, blinking on off. Brightness control non-op. Sometimes partial operational with some functions working.

I have removed the cluster and the ribbon cable connection at the top of the cluster is tight. No wire damage can be seen. The wires to the dimmer assembly are intact.

Hardware issue? I will put it back together if it is hardware as my AFTERMARKET warranty will cover it.

The dealership wanted 6 hrs. to DIAGNOSE this before any commitment from the insurance......

Thanks,

John

Good question.

Yesterday my right side window would not come down. Turned it off restarted and it worked. I will pull the door accordian and look at those wires. The car has always been garaged and not driven in the rain or had the engine bay washed down....

Other than that no other electrical issues at all.

Thanks,

John

condensation in HUD prolly, comes apart easy w/ 4 phillips screws

clean used HUD can be had for about $250, don't let the dealer get it.

Condensation in the projector or is the HUD portion of the cluster replaceable?

disregard my previous post, I'm going to speculate the 11 pin HUD harness on your cluster is loose, check to make sure both ends are securely installed, runs from HUD switch to back of cluster

I have seen this before

I was hopin so Steve,

All 3 ribons were secure and no visible sign of a wire out of the connectors. I might swap either cluster or projector from my '02Z to see which one it is

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs John but its worth checking

Does this occur at the same time in the same position?

The HUD is a lens that projects the parametric info onto the screen. If the sun is at a specific angle it can hit the lens in such a way that it displays all the symbology at once. The appearance is to flood out the display. Once you move away from that heading the sun no longer reflects and it reverts to normal.

I'd see it on one particular road in Vegas at the same time every day.

If thats not it I'd leave it to the dealer if I had extended warranty.

Happened to me on the way home one night. The sun behind was me and all of a sudden every part of the HUD display lit up at once. I was

As soon as I changed direction it went back to normal. I thought the entire car had fubared at one time.

This thing uses all or partial pieces of the display at random. top half of the speed, no tach and such.

I did have the dealer look at it when they were putting in a new fuel pump. They wanted me to agree to 9 hours of diagnostics. My after market warranty wants to PROVE point of failure. No WAY...

I fought them for a month to do the fuel pump. Had to have the car towed 3 times They wanted the dealer to prove it was the fuel pump. It would blow fuses when hot and ON THE GAS. THEY SUCK.

At least those Bastards had to pay the dealer $1896.00 for the fuel pump

That sucks. I guess changing companies would be hard at this stage? Hope you fix the snag
