I have put Long Tube Headers, High flow cats and an x-pipe. I have replaced the senors but I keep getting the same 1153 code. I have been told to get O2 simulators. My question is with the O2 simulators, are they for the sensors before or after the cats? What type of connectors do I need for them? I have found them from a forum member, brand new but they have both the male and female ends. I need to know which to order for my 2002 convertible. I have also heard to using extensions and move the front sensors to the back after the cats. What does this do? What else would I need to do to accomplish this. Please help. Thanks
IMO your way off base with sims for the 1153 code. Do some searches on the code and try some of the things you find, it could be any of a host of issues. Usualy its a melted wire on the sensor, its pretty hard to route the lines to keep them from melting. I wrap mine in heat sheilding. Or it coud be a different problem, your going to have to do some trouble shooting and research.
Sims are used by some to simulate the rear O2 sensors when they remove the rear O2 sensors. They are NOT used for the front O2 sensors, you car will run like crap if you would try and use them at the front.
Most do not use sims. Most have a tuner turn off reporting of any rear O2 codes. Very few have codes for the front like 1153 turned off as well because of the specific LTs they have. Don't know which one may need that sorry.
Some headers move the "FRONT" O2 sensors further away from the heads which makes the exhaust stream that they work in colder. The heater circuit inside the FRONT sensors is small and sometimes cant handle the colder operating enviorment. To FIX that issue, the REAR or after the CAT O2 sensors have a much better heater circuit inside the sensor so the tuners MOVE THEM to the front PRIMARY O2 sensor location. the problem is, the rear sensors have a different shaped connector and requires an adaptor extension harness to allow them to be connected to the front O2 sensor connectors.
The rear O2 sensors do nothing more than report the efficiency of the CAT operation to the PCM. You can have the rear sensors removed and plug the bungs in the pipe with caps. When you remove the REAR sensors, you have to have that function programmed out of the PCm or it will set a DTC and you will never pass an emissions test and the CEL will always be on.
YOU MUST retain your primary FRONT O2 sensors!!!! They are what control the engine in close loop crusing mode!
