Adam's known on more then one forum for stiring things up. Take anything he says with a grain of salt. This should have been totally handled privately with Noel and not posted on the forum. I usually post such things on forums as a absolute last resort. And from what I hear he should have told Noel in the first place it was'nt purchased directly from him and take it up with the vendor he purchased it from.
Well, I'm not sure what any of this accomplished, however it hasn't changed my opinion of Noel, his work or his integrity as a forum vendor. I think he one of the most honest people I have run across in a long time. He was very up front with me on the tank issue when I spoke with him a few weeks back, even though he knew it might cost him a sale. When is the last time a car salesman was that up front and honest?
The forum is a great source of information and allows people with the same interest to exchange views and information, but in cases like this lynch mobs are formed before the "accused" can defend themselves and provide their side of the story. I always think it best to keep problems with a vendor private unless the vendor is obviously taking advantage of their customers, in which case it is worth taking it public to prevent others from having the same problem. This was clearly not the case here.
I took delivery of an Engine Kit from Autobuffs about 3 weeks ago, and I have not had any problems. One of the first things Noel told me was that the Surge Tank could cause some problems. He told me this before I ordered. Was your tank new??
Heat + Paint + Corrosive Chemicals = Possible Complications
I understand this. I have never bought anything from Noel, but I would.
The examples of work he's done for other members that I've seen have been absolutely awesome. His reputation on this forum since I joined here has also been rock-solid and I've heard nothing but great things about Autobuffs and Noel. I put a lot of stock in what the general consensus about any particular vendor is here and I have yet to be disappointed.
Most of us here deal or have dealt with situations like this, from one side or the other, in our own daily lives. Stuff happens and we need to deal with it objectively and with the right perspective.
Re: Problem with Autobuffs Surge Tank? (George Cooper)
Hey thanks Roli! Might be that would be the way to go. A practical benefit for us do-it-yourself types who have a day job is that you could take your time with the car still being functional while you are doing the pieces. If this other forum member wouldn't mind, please shoot me his e-mail at cooperge@musc.edu so I can get with him for advice.
Thanks again!
George,
I looked on line at Ecklers and, IF I am seeing the right item (there's no picture, just a description), then it's about $90 from Ecklers just to cover the radiator fluid reservoir. They also sell a kit with more items. By comparison, a NEW radiator fluid reservoir can be had for under $40. So, I'm thinking I'll take a shot at painting the actual reservoir, and if it goes bad and I can't get the paint off, I'll likely just replace it. Of course, this won't account for my "labor" cost of doing it myself, but I'm no Autobuffs so I'm thinking that cost is negligible. :D
Just another option, which might work also for someone like you who, from your multiple-step description of sanding and use of flexible primers, clearly has better knowledge of painting than I do.

Re: Problem with Autobuffs Surge Tank? (George Cooper)
I contacted Noel several months ago when I was looking into purchasing engine compartment items from Autobuffs. Noel took the time to FULLY explain what the risks were on certain items (i.e., surge tank) and even advised what would work well considering how I drive my car. During that conversation, he earned a lot of respect from me - even though he may have discouraged me from purchasing certain items. When I am ready to buy, he will certainly be one vendor I consider.
Sorry to hear you are having issues with the surge tank, but perhaps that is why when you buy used, they say "Let the buyer beware." I hope you can get some satisfaction, but it might be best to talk to the individual you bought the parts used from.
Hear me when I tell you - I'm no expert at all - I just like to read other peoples' advice and then mess with stuff to see if I can actually do it! (I do have four head of boys......)
Anyhow, I got ahold of Paula Hambrick. who is known around here for her painted hood liners, and she has these Ecklers pieces that she has painted with very good results. But I hadn't realized that they were that pricey! Not sure which way I will go on this - I do like the idea of being able to take them off.
Thanks for your thoughts - I'm not going to post a how-to on the boys!
