Check Engine Light?
Just took my 2004 Z16/Z06 out for the innagural ride of spring. This winter I installed a Vararam CAI along with their power duct, a set of long tube Melrose headers along with X-pipe and Random Technologies high flow cats and new plugs and wires.
After a few miles and some short but rpm limited blasts the "check" engine icon lit up. Nothing came over the DIC just that light. I have seen on the forum that after installation of the Vararam (especially on the Z06) sometimes you get a "lean" engine code. Does this code show on the DIC, or does just the "engine" light come on?
Do you think the "engine light" is due to the bolt-ons or do I have something else going on?
I thought if it threw codes you'd need a reader/scanner to retrieve them, or will they actually come over the DIC?????
singed...confused but nice to get 'er out
thanks....Jim

tommie I should have went here first answered all my questions...thanks man
I had 17 codes...16 of them were "History" and had been corrected. These were from the multiple times I disconnected the battery over the winter during upgrade work. Although I did have a PCM P0420 H C
TWC Lo Efficiency Bank 1. Is that my O2 sensor? Why did it have the "H" "C" after the code? The "H" means history but what about the "C" ?
I reset all the codes started the ol girl up and NO check engine light on, although I didn't drive it.
Thanks again...I appreciate all the help recieved from you guys on here!

clear the codes like you did and go drive it.
do you have all 4 o2 sensors, or just the front?
if you have not had it tuned, you might set codes for
low cat Efficiency (po420/po430)
you could set codes for the rear o2 sensors if you do not have them installed and do not have o2 sims installed
sometimes the vararam will set codes for po171? system too lean.
just clear them all, test drive and when the light comes back on then post your codes.

if your taking it in for a tune wednesday, then i would not worry too much, just drive it, post the codes, and you will probably want to mention what codes you are setting to your tuner..

I was told that after the VarRam install that it might take about 60 or so miles for the computer to learn the new mixture. Mine never threw any codes but I didn't drive it very hard for about 100 miles to make sure. Hope it fixed itself.
