Re: Installed Blackwing today! (Aln)
The Blackwing was the first "real" mod I did on the car. Had it done by the Donaldson guys last September down in Bowling Green at the Labor Day NCM Bash. Just drove 50 miles or so for the re-learn and everything went smoothly. Great intake...looks good, no "Water Lock" worries like the bottom feeders and no cutting the shroud. :yesnod:

Some say there are no stupid questions. Here's hoping they're right, LOL I bought my 98 used and it has an extended GM warranty which the original owner paid extra for when he purchased the car. I have made arrangements to transfer that warranty. My question is: If I install the Donaldson filter, will I have encounter warranty problems from GM/or the dealer because the replacement filter. Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.
That is actually one reason I ordered the Donaldson. From what I understand, the switch back to stock only takes a few minutes so if you go in for service, just put in the stock unit. No questions then.

Sounds like excellent advice. Thanks for the tip, Vettenuts
Now that I have put almost two hundred miles on the car the pinging is gone. The 1-2 shift is hitting hard enough to break loose the tires and the traction control is activating, I think that was what my noise was because if I turn off the t/c it act different. The Blackwing looks great when the hood is up and sounds great gulping in all that air.
I'm gonna get mine tomorrow...I hear everyone raving about it and I can't wait to get mine put in...I heard the install takes about 30 minutes...is that about right?
I took an hour on my 2002 because the instructions weren't clear. I didn't realize I had to remove the coupler that was already on the unit before I added the extra coupler in the box. On a pre 2001, it should be a snap and now that I know how to do it, I could probably do it in about 20 minutes.
I had only driven the car about 100 miles before I installed it, then another 50 after installing it today and even with what little experience I have, I definitely can feel a difference! You can hear that puppy sucking in the cold air.
I'm off on Monday so I'm hoping to install it then...trying to get ahold of Richard at X-28 Motorsports so I can order it, but have not been successful. He's here in Dallas so I might have to pick it up if I have to...does the CF-Mall do overnight for this stuff? Like if I ordered it right now would I get it tomorrow? If so, how much does it cost for overnight service. If I do it on Monday, I can take my time....but man it's hell having to wait till then...I know this guy that has a ricer (yea it's not his fault he's stupid  ) and he has a K&N intake...when he revs it....MAN!!! Whooommmmmm you can hear the air getting sucked in! Does the blackwing sound like this? Can you hear it with the hood down or only when the hood is up?
When the hood is down and the engine is still cold, I hear it sucking air. When it warms up, not so much, unless you're on the throttle. With the hood up, it sounds great. Have a buddy rev it up while you stand up front. :seeya
Easy to install, take your time..after all..you're not getting paid :D ,should take you less than 1 hr., no special tools needed either
One point to remember..The key you have to remove on the MAF sensor has a little tab on it that you must depress. It breaks very easy, I know, I was being careful and snap.
Well I have a question then...I had to unplug the MAF the other day to take off my radiator shroud....there was a tab i had to lift up to unplug it...is this the tab you are talking about...because one of the how-to's it said something about lifting a "key" and pressing in on the sides or something like that...hmmmmm
