My 98 has been covered up alot lately but every once in a while we get a day or two that I can take it out. After it sets for a week or two or three the key phob goes out of sync and I have to re sync it. It has a good phob battery and the batt in the car is good. Whats up with that?? Has any body figured this one out yet? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Re: KEY PHOB PROBLEMS!!!! (Bill Curlee)
Been cold there... sometimes the keyless entry system range is affected buy the colder temps... I know on my 98 when the temps drop below 40 degrees, sometimes I'll have to get fairly close to the drivers door before it will work.
Distance has nothing to do with problem. I was standing right next to the door and it wouldnt do anything! I had to re-syns it and the damn thing worked fine after that. Now that the weather has turned bad again, in a week or so I will go back out stand next to the door and have to re-sync AGAIN to get it to work! This has always been a problem on and off. The dealer said it was normal   :mad . Soooooooo, I've just been trying to live with it. Any more recommendations or answers that might clear up my problem. I guess you can see my flustration level with this problem
bill,
is the tire pressure monitoring system working ok ?
it's on the same frequency as your key fobs.
next, have you tried your other key fob to see if that
one works properly ? don't tell me, you only have one.
that's all i can come up with. good luck
stefan
True, the tire sensors are on the same frequency... good catch.
I seem to remember some kind of dealer bulletin on poor fob performance at low temperatures. If I find it I'll send the information, but ask your dealer to research it anyway and see if something turns up.
I have to constantly re-sync my FOB to the car. I notice that sometimes, as I walk away, the car won't automatically alarm. Once this happens, the FOB is on one code and the car is on another. It is a pain.
I think this key fob problem is due to poor battery contacts inside the Fob. If you bang it or drop it, it briefly disconnects and loses sync. My solution to this is to open the fob, clean both battery and contacts with alcohol. Then pry up slightly the battery contact (be careful, don't pry it too hard). This has solved the problem for me. Good luck1 :seeya
