Default Need to replace a bad A/C compressor

Well my 2001 Coupe is blowing hot air so I had it inspected and the compressor is bad. No leaks on the lines, the low side indicates that it comes up to pressure, but little or no compression on the high side. The price I got was $1700 for the parts and labor. Does anyone have a suggestion for a reasonable price compressor?

Thanks,
rr

When was the last time it worked properly? Is the compressor clutch engaging and staying engaged? www.gmpartshouse.com has the compressor, 1137031 for $528.67 plus shipping.

Holy heck that's a lot of money for not a lot of work.

If the compressor is genuinely busted, get a new one and a new (I can't think of the name right now) can that sits in the engine bay, I want to say it's called a condenser. Put oil in both then install with new o-rings. Also replace the schrader valves in the high and low pressure ports. Then vacuuum it out using a vac pump from harbor freight ($15) and then charge the system by borrowing a vac gauge set from a friend.

You'll have to pull your front pass wheel off to access the compressor. If I was closer I'd offer to help but the point is you can save yourself a LOT of money on that sorta repair.

Thanks guys. The compressure clutch is engaged and all of the switches are operational. The system was working last summer.

I would love to do the work myself, but I just don't have the skills. Well after 100,000 miles something was bound to be needed to be replaced.
