anyone who thinks they can get horsepower out of a can is taking the wrong kind of medication.I use all RP fluids because they're good lubricants. I add rwhp with mods.

RP has been in my CORVETTE for years. Top of the line IMHO! Never use anything else due to the extremes of my drag racing. My daily drivers get Mobil 1, since I don't drive them nearly as hard as the Vette.

It doesn't really say that the oil is good or bad, only that there is not evidence of claims.

I love this topic. Most of the comments are based on emotion not logic or fact. I for one believe all the name brand oils will do an excellent job. I have not run Royal Purple but I have run several other synthetics and a couple dino oils in my Duramax and my C4. To date I have had ten oil analysis done. Everyone of them came back excellent. I have since returned to running dino in my Dmax. I will continue using what ever name brand full synthetic that is available. Is RP competitively priced? If so I would be glad to test it and have an analysis done. I haven't had my C5 very long. It is coming up on 3K since I put in Penszoil Platinum. I will send in a sample then. Later! Frank

I have been using RP for about 5 years now (even before the vette) but I think I am going to switch and try the new castrol edge oil

Well Iam in the graphic arts and advertising business and I can tell you that EVERY MAJOR OIL COMPANY out there is right now battling for your business and is ready to easily pick fights and bash the competition. I honestly am an huge believer in the "word of mouth" advertising. It is the most non bias, honest, and down to earth type of information you can get. You get an idea if the product(s) has a good reputation or not and you can factor that into whether or not you will buy said product(s). I honestly love these types of games where one company picks on another and actually calls them out on it as

Yeh what they are not emphasizing is that they themselves have a dedicated BS budget & department that does nothing but specialize in this! They all do! It's like someone who is paid to find skeletons in your closet if your running for a political field. If you get paid for something, dig hard enough, & bend the truth a little...you end up finding and writing about anything that will make you look good and your competition bad.

So please don't go running out and buying one product over the next cause you saw a commercial on tv, heard it promoted on the radio, or read it online somewhere from a "special comparison test".

Buy it cause you like it and feel it works. Then if it holds true...be sure to tell everybody about it.

I myself have Redline, Mobil 1 Synth, and Royal Purple products in my vette, along with Castrol GTX in my sunbird. They are all working just fine. It pretty much depends on what is on sale, what is local for me to get, and what mood Iam in at the time I purchase. They are all great products in my own opinion.

It's also a reason why the auto makers and automotive products manufacturers are reluctant to completely drop out of racing in these economic times.

They know that people tend to buy any ("high performance") XYZ product that's advertised on the cars...

XtremeVette Well said, bend the truth, you're too kind, not too long ago a certain major oil company (rhymes with a hole in the ground from which you get water)anyway they made the claim that their gasoline will prevent and or clean the "gunk"that collects on the backside of valves I just got a little pizzed I would like to know how the he11 they do that if you got crap on the back of the valves like the pictures displayed you got bad valve guides and or seals wrote a letter to consumer reports got a reply said they are lookng into it (CR) guess what they now word it differently not in a misleading way the sad part is I buy that brand of gas.I did a gas cost anaylisis not just miles per gal. but how much it cost per mile their middle grade cost less per mile than any of the regulars that was a carbureated car my 89 cutlass 2.8 fuel inj. also gave better milage than all the regulars but the cost per mile worked out the same maybe they should concentrate on what they do well instead of trying to trick us they take advan tage of the less informed so like XtremeVette said word of mouth...... got something that works or doesn't remember the FORUM IS YOUR FRIEND OH YEAH.... XtremeVette very cool avatar!! P.S. I use RP in my trans 03 z/06 car had about 5k when I put it in read about it in the forum ,was skeptical and saved factory oil but it worked great noticeable improvement had clutch replaced last month put RP back in now has 75k in all honesty fact oil will give same wear protection but RP deff. shifts smoother

Whats the scoop with Mobile 1 now ? Patman on LS1tech is the one that was recommending Mobile 1 back in the day.

When did this change go down ??

People this is just like the Optima battery thread, one says it sucks and the other says it is the best, one just goes by word of mouth and never tried it, one goes by actual use of the product!

If you think one oil is better than the rest you should keep using it as long as it is not Pennzoil, cause Pennzoil is junk!

Oh wait, you were being serious.
So they take a Camaro that probably had many hard miles on it and none of the fluids ever changed in it. They could have drained and replaced all the fluids with anything new and gotten those results.

I am curious because we filled my girlfriends 440 rwhp supercharged mustang with mobile 1 and its making some more noise. Otherwise it seems fine but the noise is a bit of a concern.

I used Mobile 1 in my vette and my ws6 because I thought it was supposed to be the best based on oil analysis. I recommended this to my GF.

Well with any synthetic oil, including Mobil 1, with the positives there are some negatives or in this case...side effects. Mobil 1 if put in an engine that had regular dino oil in it will seek out any given leak prone area. Leaks you never even knew existed running the regular oil. Because of this, characteristics that you were use too, including noises and noise levels are going to change as well. You may even experience some smoke coming from the engine area from the new leaks that might develop. Any oil change going from regular to synthetic or going from a long overdue oil change to fresh oil will change the way the vehicle may operate. Some of it may be purely "in your head" or a placebo effect, but the fact still remains...your putting something different in the engine and things are going to move and operate differently with a different oil or different conditions brought into play.
