Oh this is pretty loud "lifter tick" type noise from both wheel wells. It drives fine though. Its only got 29000 miles.

Did you do anything else besides change the oil before this noticeable tick started?

Where headers added onto the car?

What were the conditions before the oil change?

What oil was in it previously and how old was it?

I am not sure . It was the first oil change since we had the car for the summer.

Nothing else was changed. I did a bunch of digging and the wheel well tick is pretty common in 4.6 OHC mustangs so I think it will be fine. I may try a different oil next time.

I unplugged each injector one at a time and it didn't effect the noise.

It has long tubes but its not a header leak.

Ok, I am not an expert, but I will say this, we are a corvette shop and we sell alot of different Name Brand Fluids Mobil 1, Valvoline, Royal Purple, and Motul. We use different Brands for specific needs unless the customer ask for a specfic Brand only. Here's a list

Brakes-Non Performance--Just use a good Brake Fluid for your Specfic Car.
Brakes-Performance--Motul Dot 4 racing brake fluid (RBF600)
Clutch Fluid-Always Performace--Motul Dot 4 (RBF600)

Note: Motul has a very high wet boiling point, thats whats important

C5 & C6 Stock Short Block Engines--All get Mobil 1 (unless customer wants something different)
C5 & C6 Built Short Block Engines--Get whatever the builder says
C5 & C6 Stock Automatics--Valvoline ATF Dex-Mer III or any equal
C5 & C6 Built Automatics--Royal Purple ATF
C5 & C6 Stock Manuals--Valvoline ATF Dex-Mer III
C5 & C6 Built Manuals--Royal Purple Syncromax
C5 & C6 Stock Diff's--Valvoine 75-90 FULL Synthetic or Mobil FULL Syn
C5 & C6 Built Diff's--Royal Purple 75-90 Full Synthetic

We have a customer that has a 1997 C5 with over 316,000 Miles on a stock never been into LS1!! Mobil 1, Thats pretty good.

This is just our opinion.

soooo can I ask you this Mike...why the change from Traditional name brands such as Valvoline and Mobil 1 to Royal Purple when a "Built" item is used? Just curious as to the logic and why not just use the Royal Purple all the time in the stockers?

“The challenger’s [BP’s] expert determined a 0.9 percent difference in power between the oils, which did not rise to the level of statistical significance, and is well below the 3 percent claim made by the advertiser.”

So BP's own expert, in a blind comparison, found RP produced .9% more power than Castrol. Not up to RP's claims of 3%, but still, more power.

Using 350 HP as a start, that's 3.15 HP more with RP than Castrol.

405 HP 3.65 HP

505 HP 4.55 HP

I'll keep using RP.

Amsoil is what I have recently switched over too, after Mobil 1 was found to be garbage and even RP didn't cut the mustard. My hot oil pressure is up and my temps are down and my valvetrain noise is much reduced. I could not ask for more from an oil!

Default Mobile 1 base ?

Does anyone know for sure if Mobile 1 is now a hydrocracked petroleum base stock and not a true synthetic like a PAO ?

Only picture I found with Royal Purple as any type of race car. I would guess if they are not sponsoring anything it cant be that good!
