I just received a new alternator from Gene Culley and it looks different from my original alternator. It has a made in France label and the pulley is significantly different then the original one in my car. The new alternator has a longer snout protruding from the pulley assembly. It physically looks like it will fit but I'm having doubt's this is the right part. Is this a new style? Has anyone ordered an alternator recently, and if so, did it look like the one pictured?
The car is a 2002 Z06 and the part I received was 10316182

I have the same alternator on my 03 Z06. My original was whining, so my friend got me a GM replacement. The REAL good ones are made in France. The clutch pulley is a revised design since there was early C5 alternator whine issues. Very high quality due to the constant high rpm use. They can't manufacture stuff like that in China or Mexico and have them not break. Any parts made in France, Italy, Germany. etc are of the highest quality.
It's a Valeo and they are good units. The pulley has an overrun clutch. It decouples the generator on rapid deceleration of the engine. It saves the serpentine belt and keeps the belt from squealing. Generator (alternator) is the highest inertia accessory.
Will this work on my 2002 Z06? I have heard stories of increased output current on the newer units are causing charging system codes and a need to have the ecm reflashed. Will this alternator cause those issues?
