My AC does not blow cold anymore. I can hear the compressor kick on. I thought if the AC was low on freon the compressor would not kick on. Could I have a problem with a vent door in the dash not opening or could it be low on freon.
If the compressor kicks on then it still has pressure, so it's probably just low on freon.
You can get a can or 2 of freon from your local NAPA store with a hose to fill your system, it's actually pretty easy.
I like to us a little Oil charge myself everynow and then too, wouldn't want to burn up your compressor cause of not enough oil (ask me how I know)
a) it's not blowing (meaning it's not coming out of the vents like you expect)
or
b) it's not cold
IMO the answers above are for situation "b". I'll add for that situation that the A/C is a closed system. So if you need freon, add it and that fixes it, then you likely have a leak somewhere and the problem will eventually return.
For situation "a"
If the vents aren't working, then it can be electrical (for auto ac) and will throw a code in the DIC, or it can be the MAP sensor Vacuum line at the back of the intake.
