Default catalytic converter removal

Hey fellas. Just had a couple of questions.

When I get around to buying a set of headers and tubes to go with (catless), can I go ahead and order a tuner and SELF tune-out o2 sensors or is this not recommended?

I know guys have cut their cats out before..but how did they eliminate o2 sensor errors?

My closest tuner is about a 3 hour drive..this is why I'm asking about buying a tuner for myself. I know the EFI Live are expensive, but I was leaning toward it.

When you install the headers I think you're going to want to do a lot more than just tune out the rear 02 sensors. With headers, full tune, and CAI, you're looking at approximately 35 rwhp. Without the tune I think you'll find there's a lot left on the table.

Just curious why you're taking the cats out? I think you'll find there's not enough of a performance difference and the stink of the fuel is going to be almost nauseating.

to **** harley riders off? Lol. I'm not sure how quick I'll be able to cam. And I'd like louder. Taking baby steps up to the cam. You know, LS6 upgrades, breathable exhaust, etc.

I gutted my cats (with Long Tube Headers) fior the same reason.. Big mistake... While it's MARGINALLY louder.. it stinks like Scheit... not like the old school leaded gas smell.. Hydrocarbon, Eye Burining, permeating your clothes smell GEts worse in the summer driving with the top down and I pull up to a light..

Not a tree hugger in the least.. But I wish I had my cats back.. No real HP gain and slightly louder..

If you want louder.. Get electric cutouts or a better exhaust..

WOW! Catless you give you 3-7 HP!

It will also give you 10 times the smell. Yea,,,, your young and viral and that 60's hot rod smell wont bother you!

Ive seen countless post where C5 and C6 forum members are buying CATs to reinstall to get rid of the "SMELL"

If you cant stand to have GM OEM CATs,, at least install some Random Technologies High Flow cats. I'm making 450 RWHP through Random Tech Cats!

..Electric cutouts are lame in my honest opinion. And currently have stock manifolds with borla xpipe and borla straight pipe. Guess I won't be getting louder until headers/cam. Thanks a ton for the input guys!

Yeah, don't listen to these guys...they don't know what they are talking about. You won't be bothered by the smell, and the extra rumble from the exhaust is awesome. You can definitely feel the difference in the seat of your pants after you remove the cats.....that's for sure.

Don't count on it not getting louder. Even with hi-flow cats, LT headers will increase the volume, especially at WOT. And assuming you are getting a good set of headers, it should come with it's own X-pipe.

it will smell, and a set of BB Bullets will sound great. I get compliments all the time, especially after the LT install.
