I want to check if my differential vent valve to see if fluid may be coming out from it. Where is this located and can I check/see this without raising the car.
I noticed some oily residue on the left side of my differential and wanted to first check the vent valve since I recently had my fluid changed.
It is not a drip and I don't notice any on my garage floor but seems more like a seep and leaves an oily residue on my fingers when I wipe it?

Hi Rob,
Did you do the fluid change? If the back of the vett was jacked to change the fluid without leveling before filling it may have been over serviced. The left side output shaft seal is a known issue along with the left side differential cover o-ring. The vent is very near the top and not easy to see. If you have a digital camera you might be able to take a picture of it by snaking the camera up in the area with one hand and snapping a photo.

It was changed on a lift so it was pretty level I would think. I have a snake camera at work which I will borrow and try to have a look. The black oily residue is more at the top part of the differential, left side, on the cover side seam facing towards the front. The bottom of the differential and surrounding area is dry, thats why I think it might be the vent valve oozing a bit or my leak is more of a slight seep. I'm thinking of leaving it until I see any signs of drips on my garage floor.
Do think this would be ok?
If you pull the fill plug and hear a slight vacuum sound, the vent valve is working properly. It lets pressure OUT but not back in, Keeping a slight vacuum on the diff when its sitting idle helps keep it from leaking.
