You can weld Ti, but can't weld steel to Ti without a buttload of messing around (welding a lot of different alloys together).

Welding Ti isn't magic. You just need PURE ARGON (inside and out) around the weld area and the gas shield needs to be maintained thru out the process and maintained until the weld cools.
Most Ti welding utilizes a special large extended shield welding tip to help maintain that gas shield.
Ahhhh,, as for welding Ti to XXX,,,,,,,,,,,, I wont go there!
