Default drop the drivetrain or not?

I will be doing a bunch of mods all at once in the near future and was wondering whats the best way to go about it. I will be doing heads, cam, intake, headers, clutch, and the left side output shaft. My question is which will be quicker in the long run... spending the time to drop the drivetrain or swapping everything out with the engine and tranny in the car. The car will be on a lift of course, but if i can avoid doing more work than i have to that would be great.

No need to drop the engine for those mods. You will be dropping the rear cradle, diff, tranny and tt for the output shaft and clutch though. I did a similar project using my lift minus h/c on the wife's A4 and it was no problem.

Sounds like a fun project.

I dropped the rear end out of mine recently to do a clutch, it was suprisingly simple. I wouldnt pull the engine to do the headers/heads though, they are easy in the car. Pulling the engine would make the cam nice and easy I guess, but getting it out seems like it would be more work than just doing it in the car.

Good luck on your project.

Honestly, by the time you get to the clutch you've got everything but the front cradle and engine out so it sure seems like it'd just easier to go all the way and pull it too. Then, you don't have to do the engine work bent over the fenders.

I agree leave the engine in the car.
