Default Help,,No Start

I replaced my right front turn lamp today. Right after that I went to start the car and I get absolutly nothing. The lamps on the gages go out when I turn the key. You can hear the fule pump start up, but the started doesn't turn. THe check light stays light when turning to the start position( I think thats normal). I think I did acidentally try to start it with the wrong key (from my silverado) but I've done that before without any trouble. It acts as if you're trying to start it without it being in park. Any Ideas????

Default Sounds like...

you have activated the alarm function with the other key. I doubt changing the bulb would cause all this. I would shut all the doors & set the alarm, then deactivate again to see if that reset the system.

If not, pull your fuses for the bcm to reset the code for the clb. Depending on how different the other key is, you may have put the pins in the key cylinder out of range of your key. It may not be reading your key pellet.

I tried jumpering out the theft protection relay, and the started turns. This only tells me that the theft detection has been activated. Looks like this may need to go to the shop.

Now I'm really in a mess. Looks like something has broken in the ignition switch and I can't turn the key. So now I can't get it out of park to get it towed.

Yeah, I was sort of wondering if your use of the wrong key messed up the ignition switch. The chip contacts at the top of the switch may have been damaged, but it should result in a flashing security light on the IP Cluster.

Tow truck driver didn't know what to do since he couldn't get it out of park. AAA is going to send out a locksmith. The quote is $285.00 for a new ignition switch. That's half of what the dealer was going to charge. It'll be interesting to find out how he gets the park release cable off of the switch and cylinder since you have to turn the key to do this. I've repaired the electrical part of the switch before.

30 Minute C5 Corvette Theft Learn Procedure
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale [in the dash], after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will
turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF for 10 minutes.
6. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
7. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF for 10 minutes.
8. You should have now gone through a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes, the vehicles is now ready
to relearn the Passlock TM Sensor Date Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch
transition from OFF to CRANK.
IMPORTANT
The vehicle learns the Passlock TM Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition
switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to
start the vehicle.
9. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock TM Sensor Data Code and/or
password.
10. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition
cycles. You can also clear the codes from the instrument cluster on the 1997-2004 Corvettes.

OK Here’s what happened. The reason that the original no-start problem occurred was due to a broken brush that reads the chip in the key. Later, that brush was pushed further into the lock which jammed the lock. Since I couldn’t get it out of park, I had a competent locksmith come out (not the one that AAA sent who couldn’t do anything), and replace the lock and cylinder assembly. I purchased the part from the dealer for $143.00 and the locksmith got $289.00. Not a bad deal I guess. The dealer wanted $400.00 minimum for the labor. The locksmith stated that the dealers don’t do the work. They sub it to a locksmith so that the keys can be matched.

Glad you got it figured out. Note to all, don't try the wrong key!
