Good Morning Everyone,
Roy Dudley here. My 98 Coupe's windshield wipers occasionally come on for absolutely no reason, cycle about 3 times, jerk and spasm a bit, then go back into their rest position. Happens maybe once every couple of days. Does anyone know if this is a software glitch, bad switch or something that could be checked out. It's not only embarassing, but it's driving me nuts! Thanks for any help guys.
The most common causes are wiper motor gets wet because the widnshield drain system (called the uddes) get clogged and water backs up into the motor or the switch goes bad. near the top of the C5 Tech section is a sticky post on Leaks that covers how to clean you udders
There are THREE rubber drain utters on the drivers side.
You can access them by sticking your hand in between the Brake power booster and the clutch master cylinder resivour (fender if you have a automatic c5).
Feel for the three rubber tubes. You can grab the tube and POP it out of the cowl (it pops back in easily) and clean it out if its plugged full of crap. Pull each one out and make sure that there isnt any trash in the holes in the cowl.
If they are all stopped up, the water that collects in that well will short out the wiper control module. If it hasnt failed yet,,,your very lucky. Fix it before you have to install a new $$$$ Module.
Okay...I think that's it! The wipers got weird after flushing the wiper cowl area with water to clean up after my cat who was peeing in that area (don't ask...that's another story) -- so will r/r the udders. Thanks to all who answered.

I had the EXACT same problem with my 98 6 mos ago. My friend found it terribly amusing. I however was not laughing. Bill is right. Clean the 3 udders on the driver side, and the one on the passanger side. But you will need to replace the wiper motor as it sounds like it has already been submerged. Also, when you replace it- make sure the connector dries out as well. Bill posted a how-to post on the udders, and there is another one on the tech forum if you do a search- for the wiper motor replacment. New motor- $55 ar Oreillys. Make sure you have a pulley puller for those wipers and some WD40. They're a real PITA. Let me know if you need anything else. -97C5
Ps-you are also welcome to use my dogs shock collar for "training" purposes if you need it.....!!
