Car fired right up, got full oil pressure in less than 10 seconds. Check engine light is on, I am going to pull the codes later today before my tune appointment tomorrow.
What are the common codes after a cam swap? I want to make sure i can fix whatever I can if there is a problem (left a sensor unplugged, etc) so they are not fixing **** on the dyno @ $250/hour.
Yep. I forgot about that. In HPtuners, Under engine diagnostics>general, there are min and max predicted MAP values. They are typically 55 and 65 kpa. The spread needs to be increased for your new cam.
P0106 is very common for 02/later cammed cars....you are almost certainly exceeding the max (~60Kpa) predicted MAP value at idle RPM. Very easy fix for a tuner.
The P0300 is all too common too. The cam lope triggers it at idle.
Some tuners do a lot of work here to desensitize the knock sensors...I simply set the minimum RPM to check for misfire at 1200 RPM, a value just above idle speed.
Find a new tuner...these are both normal, expected, and routine fixes for a heavily-cammed car.
Unless you have an experienced tuner who's willing to spend some dyno or road seat time and do a good VE tune, your NOT going to get a very thorough tune. Anybody can do a WOT PE tune and change some basic parameters that needs to be changes to make the car run better. Once the Volumemetric Efficiency table is correct, they can work on the MAF tables and make your LTFT correct.
It takes talent and patience to get the whole ball of wax just right. Where are you located. People viewing your post can recommend a tuner in your area who can fix your issue.
Im in Houston. I have been talking on and off with Stephen and Jason at EG. These guys customer service is amazing. They have given me so much info over the phone and I have never spent a nickle with them yet. I called tonight to leave them a message to call me back and Jason answered the phone at 10:30pm. I am not used to service like that at a Lexus dealership, much less a speed shop.
The other speed shop, most the time I am extremely lucky to get called back the same day, and I am rushed off the phone with in 30 seconds and promised another call back.
The shop that I have been dealing with has not charged me yet due to issues every time I go. First one, I did not put the ballancer on right so I had to tow it home and reinstall the proper way and I needed bigger injectors. Second time, they said the o2 sensor was bad and they could not tune drivability. I never saw an o2 code on the car and a friend drove with me and we scanned it with HP tuners and both o2s were reading fine.. one was just a hair slower than the other. They said one bank is extremely rich and they could not get it to trim out. I have 2 brand new o2s in now and not sure if it is going to change anything. At this point I just have a crappy feeling of "whats next"
DAMN! When I answered your post, I was thinking "wish he was close to Stephen & Jason or ECS or COW." How crazy is that!!!
Stephen layed hands on my O2 ZO6 driveability issues after I installed his Whiplash Cam and BAM, all fixed! There both extremely nice people and very knowledgeable and dependable. I think they actually LIVE at the new shop!
I just went thru this process with my cam and tune. The 02 sensors can be deleted in the tune. Sounds like the tuner was having problems tuning with the sensors. You will get driveability with one of the tuners listed above. When I put my cam in and started to drive it same thing happened check engine light came on. I had an experienced tuner tune mine and set the idle at 900. Driveability is very good now. At first I thought maybe I went too big. I did the Torquer 3 cam. Have faith it will come together.
