I've got the typical corvette-creaking noise, and am going to buy the Zip corvette aftermarket bushings, front and rear.
What is a fair price to have them installed? The dealership wants $180, and a corvette specialty shop wants $100.
I have virtually no experience working on cars, but is this simple to do? Do you have to remove the tires and the sway bars?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
It doesnt really get any simpler. You dont even need to take the tires off if you have ramps. Just remove the screws/nuts holding the bushing brackets to the crossmembers, pull the bar away from the car, spread the old bushing off and slip the new on. lube up the bar if ur using poly bushings. Wouldnt spend $180 on that.
One other thing if you want to try it. I didn't use lubricant on mine I used Teflon tape (plumbing tape) on the bar under the bushing. Several wraps and then install the bushing. No noise.

You mentioned this before. It sounds like a pretty good idea! grease tends to wash away after a while, though I can still go a whole season without them squeaking. My control arm bushings are another matter
It takes like 5 minutes per bushing if even that once you are under it. The rears, you don't even need to jack it up. Fronts you do of course but even so, its fast and simple
Is there an online "how-to" that shows pictures/directions of what I'm looking for once I get the car on jacks? I'm sure it's extremely obvious once you know what you're looking for (the long bar...), but I don't
$180 to install sway bar bushings?!?!?! Man I'm in the wrong business. If you were local to me I'd tell you to come over and I'd help you do it for free.

Here's ls1howto.com's sway removal and install guide, has pics on the bushings, should help you out!
You might check with a Moderator and find out if its Ok to post the name of the offending dealership so anyone in your local area will know to avoid this dealership.
2 hours to get it on the lift, Plus 10-minutes for coffee & donuts, Plus 15 minutes to install, Plus 5-minutes to remove from service bay, = 2-1/2 hours.
What's the problem.
I'm surprised they didn't add in a potty break what with all the coffee & donuts.
