Default Header install woes

Well, headers are installed and everything is back together other than the oil dipstick tube. I really can't figure out how this thing goes back in.. is that large hole on the pan for the tube? Looks really big.. a lot bigger than the o ring on the dipstick tube. Also, car starts and holds idle but i can hear a massive vac leak... Would the dipstick tube being removed cause this sound? I've changed the upper intake gaskets as well as the valve cover gaskets.. sound seems to be coming from the passenger side. Also, can someone take a pic for me of what th dipstick tube looks like installed? A friend pulled it and doesnt remember what it looked like.

Tipstick tube goes in the big hole right in front of the starter on the oil pan, the arm on the dipstick tube should connect to the primary of the header.

You have a vac leak, check your PCV on the TB and the map sensor behind the intake.

Good Luck.

Yeah i kind of figured i have a vac leak. It really sounds like it's coming from teh rear passenger side fo the upper intake. That or the valve cover. I check all the vac lines, all the injectors and i checked the valve cover gasket and upper intake mani gasket and they seem to be fine. I migth not have tqed the valve cover down good enough though. I'll go take a look at it.

Put the tube in without the dipstick. The hole is located as described above. If you shine a flashlight and stand at the right angle you can see it, or use a mirror. Put the dipstick tube in carefully and once it goes into the hole just straighten it up so it is lined up with the hole and it will slide right in. Here is where it goes on an 02, between the #2 and #4 exhaust tubes.

i cant figure out this vac leak to save my life. Injectors look ok, pyut new valve cover gasket and upper intake manifold gasket on and check all of the vac lines. Everything looks tight. At this point im wondering if the valve cover is warped or the upper intake manifold is warperd cause there is nothing else that could be casuing this damn thing.

BTW i have an 00 with 01+ headers.

Is your HVAC system working properly? If not it sounds like the hose came off the rear of the intake manifold.

I've only owned this car for about two weeks. I turned the car on and the A/C and it is coming out of the vents, getting cold but there's not a lot of pressure coming through the vents. I'm not sure if the AC is supposed to have a lot of pressure on it on this car compared to others.. but it doesnt seem like it has much.

You might consider pulling the intake again and checking the vacuum line at the back. Also, it's possible that during the header install the engine was jacked too high cracking the MAP housing at the back of the intake.

map housing in tact. Theres a nipple under the plug for it that was leaking , put that on and hooked it back up.. still vaccum noise. I can hear it coming from the back of the intake so it's definitely something back there.

It was that lil hvac line. Didn't even see the nipple it was connecting to since it was hidden under the MAP plug. Thanks Mark.
