Took my car in to the dealer to get a leak fixed and I got a quote for the replacement of this.
18 labor hours to do both the upper pan and rear main. Having never really done much work to an LS1 before I do not know how time consuming this job is. My wrenching experience ended with my old 91 mustang GT.
From my experience this seems a little excessive to say the least although I am not sure if the front cross member needs to be dropped or what needs to happen with the torque tube to get the rear main.
My vette is an 02 coupe. Also they are wanting to charge me 6.9h of labor for the 60k service.
If the rear main is truly the leak source that is not to far off the mark for time to do it. The drivetrain has to be dropped to get to the rear seal. How's the clutch? Might as well update that at the same time, it is right there and has to come off to get to the main seal. You might want to check out some other shops that do Corvette work for their charge as well. The 60K service taking 6.7 hours??? That just seems wrong. What do they plan on doing? If it were me, I would want the list of what they are calling a 60K service item for item.
18 hours is probably right. Front suspension/cradle drop doesn't have real fast. I had my oil pan gasket replaced under an aftermarket warranty and they billed them over $1000.
That is a lot of money. I just went in to my Chevy dealer and have to have the same thing done. Their rate is $90/hour. They quoted me 10 hours of labor.
