Default c5 Exhaust Question

I just purchased a 97 corvette...bone stock.

For the time being, I was gonna have the local muffler shop cut off the mufflers, and run a bend around where the mufflers would be and attach stock tips....so running stock exhaust with no mufflers. Anyone done this and know how it sounds? My old trans am ls1 had American racing headers with straight pipe all the way out(borla adjustable opened up with no plate) and it sounded wicked, yet not toooo loud. Will the vette sound close to this? THANKS!

I did something similar but not permanent! Try this FIRST!

Un-bolt the mid pipe from the over the axle pipe. There are TWO flanges with bolts and gaskets. Take the bolts to home depot or dig into your spare bolt box and find some bolts (careful,,there metric) that are about 1.5" longer than the stock ones. Find some nuts or washers and install them on the bolts in between the two flanges and bolt the system back together so that theres a space between the two flanges.

NOTE!!!!! CAUTION!!!!!! On the EARLY C5's,,,theres NO shielding on the inside of the fuel tank! The tank is plastic. If you don't protect the tanks, hot exhaust will blow on the plastic tank! Ask me how I know! It didn't do any damage but,,,,the possibilities are there!!!!

I did this to my 98 coupe.. Wow,,it IS LOUD and the sound is very crude and guttural. Its not a good quality hot rod sound. What you will notice VERY QUICKLY is there will be a LOT of in cabin DRONE. Drone SUCKS and it is very aggravating!!!!! The C5 LS engine uses a unique firing order and that makes the exhaust note very different.

I left it that way for approx 6 months and got tired of the DRONE!

Find some C5 with an aftermarket system and if you like it, copy it! Remember. Engine mods effect the sound of the exhaust!

I changed mine to the B&B Bullet exhaust and please let me say I LOVE IT! The drone does not bother me one bit. I even notice a bit of a power gain, but nothing to brag about.
