i learned the hard way on this. i have tried different injector cleaners and octane boosters off the parts store shelf that you add to the fuel tank. the sad thing is that many of these 'additives' have NAPTHA (sp?) in it. this shiit turns the inside of your cylinders, plugs, O2 sensors a rust brown tinge. they supposedly do not affect O2 sensors (as the bottles advertise) but i dont trust ANYTHING that leaves a fine rust powder all over the inside of my motor!!!! so, i will only clean my injectors the 'professional' way (high pressure manifold attachment that attaches to the fuel rail shraeder valve that uses a pressurized can of cleaner). i will also only use Toluene of Xylene for octane boosters...nice and clean, no additives.
I use NOS's octance boosters. I'm switching to Amsoil's because it has more of the key ingredient, MMT for less money. Neither product has Naptha according to the Manufacturer Safety Data Sheets (unless "Stoddard Solvent" is another name for Naptha). MMT is used widely to boost octance, even by the major gasoline brands.
Toluene is very effective, but only in large quantities such as between 1 to 2 gallons per 10 gallons of gas.
CA has only 91 octane commonly available, so octane boosters are essential.
I also only use Toluene or xylene. AZ has the same problem 91 at the pump. I run N20 to get the carbon off my valves.. Thats the funest way to clean an engine..
