I live in Northern CA. What is a good (fair, acceptable) price for a 4-wheel alignment? My Corvette shop does not do alignments and recommended a shop to me. They charge $170, seemed high to me. What are your thoughts? (It’s all they do, frame and alignment work)
Also they do not use lasers, they measure. I talked to them about this and they told me the fancy lasers are what the inexperienced use, but they are not as good as measuring and manually aligning by an experienced person. (they went into more detail, but that is a para phrase) What are your thoughts?
Also, do we need to get a 4 wheel alignment? Or is a front OK? They told me they would check the rear and if they didn’t need it, they wouldn’t do it.
Anyhow, if this an outrageous price, can someone from my area recommend a place, otherwise I'll just pay it.
Sounds about right. I've paid the same amount for a 4-wheel alignment down in Mountain View. The shop I used told me pretty much the same thing, if the rear didn't need it, they won't do it.
Lurker-- Run -
Do not Walk away from that shop. Having been in the business for many years- anybody that is doing a 4 wheel alignment by measuring - is screwing you out of your $. :mad A proper lazer alignment - caster, camber and toe on all 4 wheels should cost between $70-100.00. The modern lazer systems are soooooo much more accurate. :D
I paid 179.99 and 39.99 .The 39.99 alignment was far superior and the tires wore better. Bunch of BS.. Less human error with laser. Also you must set rear wheels before you can begin to think about the fronts. The fronts are predicated on the rears.. You seem to be getting bad advice..
