Default Custom exhaust ?'s

Hey guys, I have a 99 coupe and I am thinking about having my local muffler shop custom fab me an exhaust system from the headers back. I would like for some opinion on this...good things, bad things, things I need to take into consideration before making the move. I am 28 years old and I am not worried about the exhaust being too loud but I would like to be able to talk on the phone while driving.

I'm thinking about just having cats and thats it (no X pipe or mufflers). Does anyone know if it would pass inspection (emissions test) or if it would just sound horrible. Any past experiences from anyone would be greatly appreciated or videos of someones exhaust videos that would be similar to what I am thinking about doing to mine.

Thanks in advance guys!

Do install the X-pipe better power and no resonating sound.
As far as the cat-back it's your call guy's change this for the
sound and that's about it. You really pick up little or no hp.
That's my opinion. Good luck.

If you run straight pipes, I think your days of talking on the phone in the car are over....

There are soo many choices for a good fitting/sounding exhaust for a C5...don't just let some yahoo at a muffler shop rig something up...

Designing a good fitting and good sounding exhaust system take considerable time and money. Trust me! Your exhaust shop may FAB up one but it may not fit properly. I MULED a new C6 header system for a local USA company and it took a lot of time and Patience to get it to the point of fitting properly. The results were very good but time consuming.

An X pipe makes a quality system. It smooths out the exhaust pulses and makes the engine see a bigger exhaust system.

So,,,,,,,,,,,save your money and purchase a good stainless steel system. REMEMBER! The exhaust system (CAT BACK) on a C5 is pretty good and replacing it with an aftermarket system will NOT net significant HP. Purchase an aftermarket CAT Back system for SOUND,,,NOT HP. If you want an increase in power,,,add headers to that up-grade!

Stainless Works 3" system on my 02 ZO6:

I agree lucky....there are lots of good systems out there! I was looking at the cost of a system compared to having my local guy make me one. After talking to him yesterday after work, he can do it, but its going to cost me as much for him to make me one as it would to buy a used system on this forum. Looks like im gonna be lurking around the "for sale" section and hopefully I'll get lucky soon....the factory exhaust has got to go!!

Don't forget the muffler shop "kink" bends the pipes reducing their inner diameter at every bend.
