Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (MrVegas)
How do I know whether I have the 2.73 gears?
How expensive is it to go to the other gears?
Option G92. (3.15) This should be on the option sticker in the glove box.
Option Gu2 is the 2.73
You can pick up 3.15's for about $300 used. Labor will be between $300 and $600, depending where you go. But if you're going to go to the expense of labor, you might as well go for the 3.42's. 3.42's go for around $900 new, but you may be able to get a used set from some of these guys who are upgrading to the 3.73's or 3.90's.

Yay. I have the 3.15 gears.
Now I'm wondering how much difference an intake would make... I think I'm just going to have to hang around these forums for a few weeks before I really understand the different options for increasing the "quickness" of my ride :yesnod:
Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (MrVegas)
I hear you bro, I havn't really "learned" my tranny yet either. I'm not sure if I like the feeling or not. It seems that it only has two modes, moderate and holy poopie. Sometimes when I want only slight power, it goes into full tilt and I have to let off. I had a Z-28 that I could drive like a Mn6, it was great.
Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (Buckmaster)
One word - Powerloader. When I first got the car I was so excited about having a vette I really didn't notice how it performed but after a few weeks I found myself getting disapointed. In stock form the car was a PITA to drive as it required too much throttle to downshift. I took the advice of the guys on the forum and ordered the P/L and must say the improvement was unbelievable.

Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (NewfieC5)
No prob here :D Auto's tend to stay in gear to save gas! May I suggest you disconnect the neg terminal on your battery, do an idle relearn and drive the car as normal so the comp will adjust to your driving habits.
Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (MrVegas)
A lot of mfg's including GM spice up the street performance of their cars by making off idle part throttle response very pronounced. This makes the car feel quicker in traffic but the car runs out of steam very quickly. My 86 olds with sequential port fuel injection and 160 HP felt very quick off the line but it couldn't keep it going at that rate because the power wasn't there.

Re: C5 not that "quick" in daily driving (MrVegas)
Just got my '01 vette. Automatic. This sounds wierd, and I know I haven't learned how to drive it yet, but it seems like you really have to put your boot into the accelerator to get it jumpin when driving around town. I think it might be the rear wheel drive. I drove a front drive Prelude (only 200 hp) and that little sucker *jumped* by just barely nudging the accelerator.
Any thoughts?
Any suggestions for ways to pep it up (without going broke)?
I had a Gen5 previous to my vette as well. It is because Honda has tuned the throttle on the Prelude very non-linearly. I don't know if you ever noticed, but there was basically no difference between 3/4 throttle and full throttle. A common trick to make a car seem faster.
Let me just throw another thing into the mix. I don't know how long or how many miles are on the car, but if you disconnect the negative cable off the battery for 5 minutes, it will clear all "learned" fuel cells & trims, etc., you drive it hard & fast for about 30 miles, and trust me, you car will "feel" MUCH quicker..... :yesnod:
