We had the notorious C1214 code problem, the ABS, Traction control and Suspension code was showing itself every now and then. After the car went to the dealer and was checked ( they said it was fine ) I found a thread on here with a lot of suggestions, as you all know the EBCM is a very expensive part to replace. First step was replacing the battery, thinking it might have been low voltage, not it. Second step was to replace the stock ground connection under the hood on the driver side, there was a thread on here from Bill, detailed pictures and all the perfect info ( thanks Bill !!!! ) well its been about a week, and the code has disappeared. The stock ground plug seems to be a little ( chessy ) so dad cut off the ground plug and replaced it with a grounding bar right on top the frame, so far so good. If anyone else is having this problem or something similar, I highly suggest finding that thread, if I still had the link I would attach here, sorry.
From what I have read, you can fight it, or just remove and send to absfixer.com. He has removal instructions and warrants work for life. It is what I ended up doing. If you search, there is also a thread where someone dissassebled EBCM and r & r the bad relay if you are a DIY. Good luck.

I would love to see this thread. I am sure I could come up with a relay if that is truly the fix for these problems. Thanks for the tip. If anyone can come up with the post, I would love to see it. In the mean time, I guess I will do some searching.
I have a 97 and have learned that it is its own beast. I dont have a pretty abs module up front i have learned its either next to the fuel filter under the car or its the unit that is mounted directly behind my diff. I am not completely sure both have electronics. This all came to my attention while attending vettes and carlisle in pa this weekend. I was coming up and the active handeling activated twice no prob just turned it off. While entering carlisle at 5 mph the dic stated reduced engine power and the check engine light came on etc and could not turn it off. I limped to my parking spot and checked the DIC with these codes all with an H
PCM P1431,1518,1571
TCS C1278
IPC B0521
Shut the car off and later came back started it up and lookie no more gremlins ran fine for the rest of the weekend. Did some asking around and from the consensus its either the bad grounds or the abs module. Does anyone have a thread to see pics of the grounds and does anyone know exactly what module is the abs the one behind the diff or the other one next to the fuel filter.

I appreciate your info, but if the EBCM is working, and its something else thats causing the problem, it seems that would be a waste of money and time. I totally agree with you, if the module is failing that seems like the right fix, but if its working part of the time like our case, its seems the (fight) is something you just have to win. Bill C. made the comment in his thread about these modules, relays will get stuck if there not used or if they get dirty and possibly gummed up ( thats not a direct quote ) which makes perfect sense. He also had some pics. of his stock grounding plug, the ends looked to be a little corroded and real dirty. Like I said before, that ground plug was loose and seemed real cheesy on ours, I guess before spending all the money to either rebuild or replace it with a new module, my suggestions is trying the grounding plug, if it is a problem that comes and goes.
1214 is the relay in the EBCM starting to go-it starts intermittantly and gets worse. www.absfixer.com fixes this or you can search for the relay problem and replace it yourself. I have some spare relays-be warned-getting the beast OPEN to repair the $3 relay is a HUGE PIA.
I dont have the code 1214 vice 1278 is what I have but the active handeling activated on the way back from PA just once so i am assuming its getting worse. I will check grounds and the connectors and then clear the DIC and see what happens. Thanks for the abs fixer site at worst case if it happens again i will send it to them just got to figure which one it is.
