99 Vert Fixed!
I wanted to thank everybody here for their great posts. Our 99 vert has been draining an Optima Redtop in about four days. I searched for "dead battery" and found several detailed posts including one showing how to hook up an ammeter to the negative cable and battery.
I charged the battery back up and put in the ammeter. It showed a constant 1.2A drain that did not drop even after 30 minutes. I checked a couple of things and then remembered the XM adapter doodad in the trunk.
The DPX Technology Plus XM6-GM10 plugs into the stock CD changer cable so you can connect a XM radio into the factory stereo. We have been using it to connect an MP3 player and it usually worked fine.
I removed it and the current drain is gone. I plugged my changer back in and all is well. Ammeter drops to 2mA now after just a couple of minutes.
