Hey guys, I have been witing for my PL for about two months now. I called Ed Wright just in case Steve can't get my PL before my new CAM goes in. I just wanted some feedback on what I should do and any experience anyone has had with Ed. My frined has a PL and it made a large diff. another frind had Ed Wright tuning and although i haven't friven or ridden in the car he says he wouldn't go any other way. Thanks guys.
I too was waiting for Mr. Cole. He promised me the PL would be done by a certain date. He kept telling me no problem. Well, that date came and went and no PL. I was having other work done by Mike Norris and computer programming was a necessary part to finish. Mike called Ed Wright with the specs and suggested parameters and had him send a PCM overnight. I think we had one slight problem, and ED sent us another PCM, but I think the problem wound up being something that Mike had to adjust. The point is, that Mr. Ed Wright was fast, courteous, and professional. All three points that I found lacking with Steve Cole. Mr. Cole's product is very good, from what I hear. I don't know first hand. I never got a chance!! I have the Ed Wright Tuning, and my car runs great. See my sig. For upgrades, it would be as simple as taking the PCM out of my car and FEDEXing it to Mr Wright, and he would FEDEX back, so there would be a couple of days downtime. Do a search on the PL. You will read some very disheartening stories on how long (months) people have waited for even an upgrade. Of course the choice is yours. But I can tell you that Ed Wright is top notch in tuning, knowledge, and professionalism. Just my .03!! Eric
you will probably have to keep waiting for steve cause i think he had surgery again, so he will need time to recover. i feel bad that steve having to go through that, but it seems once again customer service from tts is going to suffer and vette owners are getting the shaft again like last year. my suggestion is to forget waiting for them and get ls1 edit and do it yourself, or find a shop that has it and have them do the tuning for you!
I used LT1_Edit when I had my '95 but the LS1_Edit won't be out for the 2001 for a couple of months now. I decided to go with Ed Wright. I just cancelled my order with Steve. Hated to do it but what the hell am I going to do when I get Heads, headers, etc.. after the cam. I surely don't want to wait on the turnaround time that Steve has. Unfortunately, there are no local tuners in my area.
Ed programmed the PCM in my Z28 a few years back. I went from running 107mph to 110mph in the 1/4. I drove up to his shop and had him tune it on the dyno. I think I went in with 330'ishRWHP and left with 350'ishRWHP. YMMV, but I was happy with his results.
I'm pretty sure you can have a dealer flash a 2001 to a 2000 (just give them a 2000 year VIN number). Then you should be able to use LS1Edit. I compared the stock programming to what the PowerLoader does. No big changes you can't easily make yourself. No fuel changes, minimal ignition changes. Most of the changes are in the transmission tables.
Same Situation here, Been waiting and waiting.......Summer is coming!!!
I need Something soon... Otherwise I guess I will go with Ed Wrights programing or the ls1 Edit so if you could give me any information on the the below questions it would really help.
Is there a web site for the ls1 edit?? If so what is it.
When do they approximate units being sold for 2002 C5?
About how much is the cost??
How hard is it to program the C5? or is it pretty easy...

I used lt1_edit 2 years ago, you don't get a pcm or send it to them. what you get is a program and a good guy to call to get the odbm cable to interface yor car's pcm with the laptop or computer your using. it's fantastic software however, they just don't have the '01 relase yet. they have it for all other C5's. I am still stcking to Ed Wright. They were very courteous and knowledgeable and more important their turnaround time is about 2 hours. you can't beat that with a stick. If they make a mistake, which everyone does, they will FedEx overnight a revised program once you get yor PCM back to them. True there is hsipping cost involved but I hear they are worth it.
Has anyone heard a status or condition on Steve since his surgery? I too have been waiting awhile for my PL2, only around 5-6 weeks (feels like months). Since I have already ordered it and I understand the predicament that Steve is in, with surgery and all, I am willing to wait for a while longer. But, anyone know a status of how he is doing and how long he will be 'away'? Hopefully all is well and he recovers quickly, for his and his families sake.
I just heard back from my order cancellation. It appears as if he's only working a couple of hours a day but he hasn't been back for about 7 days due to extra recovery. He has a lot of backwork to do but if you just have a vanilla setup he can pump it out by the end of March....maybe...It seems there is quite a bit of catching up to do. I wish him well in his recovery and hope all the best for he and his family but adding mod's to my car in order to get the best track time and still drive it to work everyday will require a better commitment to customers and faster turnaround time. I just rode in my friends car who has Ed Wright programming and all I can say is :D :smash: :smash: :smash:
Sent my PCM to Ed Wright on Wednesday (Overnight) and got it back on Saturday(overnight). The $100.00 in shipping cost just tasted a lot better than waiting 3 months or longer. Am I happy? You bet I am. But then again, I'm impatient. It hasen"t missed a beat since I installed it.
How much did it cost the initial time you had your PCM programmed? How much does it cost for the updates? Where can I go to read up more on Ed Wright Programming? Sounds a :reddevil of a lot better than the PL2...(no flames intended)
LS1Edit is $550. There is a good mailing list and the main programmer (Ken) is pretty responsive to questions on that mailing list. LS1tech.com has a good message board with a few knowledgable LS1edit users. It's a new product and takes a little getting used to. I've had it about a week and already feel pretty comfortable with it.
Idle, rev limiter and transmission firmness changes are pretty easy to make. Tuning for heads/cam and larger injectors gets a little more complex. The key is to make small changes and see how the car responds. In one week I've made about 6 reflashes of my PCM. Takes about 20 minutes to download the code from your computer the first time (and you only do it once). Takes about 2-3 minutes to upload any changes.
Looks like MMS will ship my new 388 all-bore motor next week. I'm putting in 30lb SVO injectors and will tune it with LS1Edit. I really like the fact that I can go to the dyno, hook up a wide band sensor and get the car perfectly dialed in at WOT.
I'm also tuning a buddies car with it this weekend. 99 Firebird with a B1 cam and full length headers. Wish me luck!
IMHO, I would have a custom program put in like with my H/C combo. 1-2 hours dyno time, with a MAFT, you should be good to go. However, for a simple program that does A4 optimisations, gear shifts, redline, shift firmness, etc.. I would go with the Hypertech, otherwise LS1 Edit from someone who can "lend" you their customised program.
My main problem is getting a program done in a timely manner and I would hate to be without my car for that long. Steve does great work however, and Buckmaster can give you his account where a name brand program was put in and did not give him idle or WOT characteristics he liked.
On a side note...does anybody have the thread of that airplane landing on that suv in the middle of the highway...been looking for it for 30 minutes and can't find it...I saw it the other day but can't remember the title...thanks.
I managed to speak personally to Steve this morning after many tries over the last two weeks. He's still hurting and trying to get to do product as best as time permits but he will be on the mend for some time.He works a few hours a day and does what he can. If you want his program I suspect you will have to wait for it. He's overwhelmed with product orders and he is just one man. That is unfortunate for those who are in a hurry.I just sent my PLII in for reprogram...I'm thinkin about a month.:D
I can tell you from personal experience with Steve that he IS a perfectionist and doesn't trust anyone with his programming. It's done right the first time and he has always taken the time to be sure the customer is happy once the product has been shipped. :yesnod:
