Anyone have any experience with the "cartridge" type of injector cleaner? These are the ones that you hook up to the fuel rail and turn off the fuel pump and run the engine from the can filled with cleaner. I have a new to me 100K C5 and I want to clean the injectors. Also any experience with the addtives for the tank...do they really work?
You'll find a lot of folks who really love the SeaFoam treatment on the cars and it appears to be safe for the sensors etc. I have used it in a effort to correct a problem I was having but it turned out to be something else.
Another option, indorsed by GM, is using Techron additive. I picked up a bottle at the Zone for $6. Make sure you don't get the one that says "with Techron". It's a larger bottle that treats up to 20 gallons.
The third (expensive) option is to take it to the dealer for the recommended cleaning using the Advanced Fuel Injector Test and GM cleaning solutions. This is similar to your original question, they plug into the fuel rail. It will also show you the individual flow rates for each injector.
I used a injector and throttle body cleaner from 3M on my 2000 Suburban that worked wonders.
In short, yes, the stuff works if you use the right stuff and do it the right way. There are tons of posts here about seafoam. 1/4 can in the brake vaccuum line 1/4 through the PCV let it set for a while and the rest in the tank. Fill 'er up and go!
