Default 224/228???

Guys,
I am looking to install a cam and associated bolt ons. I was set on the 224/228 581 114+2 cam but lately I've been thinking with the stock 241heads that I might lose to much low end torque and not gain as much mid range than maybe a smaller grind. Heads would be in the future but at least a year away. The car is street driven and I would say 90%of the time I don't spin it over 5000rpm but I don't baby it either and enjoy running through the 6spd. In addition I do like lugging down the highway in 6th gear. My tuner says the 224 cam is the way to go and he can tune it just right. Ryan over at CMS in Lake Elsinore CA is going to do the work. What I haven’t been able to find is a dyno curve showing a 224/228 114 cam with stock heads. Any experience with this cam and stock heads would be very helpful.
Thanks

I don't have stock heads but I wouldn't worry about that cam killing low end power. You will like the results and a milled set of AFR's later will make it even better

Nope 224/228 will give you more low end and mid range torque

Go for it

Jason 98 TA from Texas Speed posted some dynos a while back on a new cam they were promoting it was a 224/227-.615/.605-112. It put out some pretty impressive results. Just something to consider.

I'll jump on this bandwagon, and agree with your choice. It'll work fine with stock or aftermarket heads....I suggest Trickflows, myself. I just ordered a blower cam, too...224-232@116+3.

I was just hoping not to lose too much, didn't think I would actually gain low end torque. I know I would gain a lot more low end if I went with say a 212/216 cam (torquer cam) but that seems like a waste because I know I would want to change it out if and when I go with a good set of heads. Well in CA the 224/228 is the biggest I can go without having to worry too much about smog.

The other thing I was thinking is since I am planning on changing the stock rockers is going too the 1.8 ratio for a little more lift, how do you think that would affect things?

224/228 .581 .588 XER on 114+4 here. Love the power the low end is superb, i like more top end though so if i were to do it over it would be a 114+0. All in all i dont think that if i had mine on a 114+0 i would be able to tell by the seat of my pants but on a dyno maybe.

Are you running 241 heads or are you a Z06?

I ran that cam with ported 241's. Made 389 rwhp with shortie headers about 10 vettes ago. Put down 389 rwhp

My buddy has a pair of 243's for sale $500.00. You would save some labot money if you do both at the same. You really can't run stock valve springs with those heads so add another $250.00

If your really squeezed for dough pick up a 02+ Ls6 cam for about $100.00 and the 243's. You will make better overall results and then maybe next year go for a nice stage 2 upgrade.
