I've had this setup for 14 months now.....except I have the hole cut to fit...$40 K&N RE9020....9" filter with 3-1/2" connection.....
It used to crack me up when someone would get on here and ask what is the best bang for the buck intake is....and everyone would post "donaldson" "vortex" "tric"....and I'd show 'em this one and they would ignore it.... ...but I've dynoed at 320 to the rear wheels with only this mod, ran a best 12.43 @ 113, so I don't see how the others can be better.......only prettier..
In my earlier pics and posts, I explained the slight surge I was having with my setup. I did not mention that I had removed the screen from the Mass Air. Another Forum member had said that the screen removal may cause the surge. Last night, I put the screen back in and guess what, the surge is gone.
So, the filter hangs down in the hole and like the pics shows and works real good. I am going to redyno the car at Speedworks next month during the dyno day with this setup I have now. It will be interesting to see where the car is at now. I have about 1800 miles on it now.
I'll e-mail the stuff to you this weekend. Basically, the filter is a run of the mill K/N. It actually came off my aftermarket F-150 cold air. The baby filter is a filter I bought at a local speed shop. I forgot what it was originally intended for. The hose was originally connected to the stock air box and comes from the air pump someone told me. I just let it coil up like it wanted to and tie wrapped the hose to the shroud.
These mods immediately lowered my ET's at a local 1/8 mile track by 0.2 secs. (8.48 to 8.28), so I know it works. You can see my ET now (with a few other mods, but I think the air filter did the yeoman's job).
You get the Surge because of turblance. The MAF can't read how much air it is really getting. That is what a lot of the different airbox design are about. The intake air needs to be a smooth flow.
