Joe, I wish you all the best of luck. I have 2 wheels on my 01 that need to be refirbished badly. Both places I've been to so far have told me that it would be cheaper to just buy new replacements. I had a wheel done on my 82 about 7 years ago for 125. Can't even get close to that amount now. I plan to buy new wheels in the spring. Let us know how you make out. (oh by the way, I'm up here in western mass.)
Aftermarket chrome? Only painted and polished were offered from the factory. My polished wheels were badly pitted, so I stripped the clearcoat and buffed them to a shine.
I'd like to offer a warning, though. Polished wheels need regular maintenance to keep looking good. I re-do mine at least once annually. More, if they get really dirty.
If your wheels are chrome they are aftermarket. If they are pitted and/or flaking it would be more cost effective to buy new wheels rather than have them refinished. If you have polished factory wheels and the clearcoat is leting go you can get them refinished reasonably. I was quoted $125 per wheel to strip, polish and clearcoat mine. Once clearcoated, polished wheels are very low maintenance. Simply wash with soap and water.
