Default Must stop this squeak!

my C5 has developed a squeak. at first I thought it was something on the interior but its definintely coming from something in the suspension. the sound is coming from the rear driver's side. I lubed everything up with silicone spray that I could find but that did not solve the problem. I didn't take anything apart though. this squeak just started one day and its been there ever since. if I let the car sit overnight it goes away until the suspension becomes active, then it quickly develops and stays. its pretty loud and happens even with very small suspension travel, so going down the road all the small bumps cause the sound. I know this has happened before, what should I do? my next step is to get the car on ramps and have someone work the suspension while I try to narrow down exactly what is causing it. sounds like it might be coming from the mount that holds the leaf springs in place. can those brackets be removed safely once the load is taken off the suspension to grease underneath?

any other advice on how to find/fix this? it makes the car seem cheap and old...which its not!

I've had the same problem with mine this year. I did a lot of searching and reading on here, and most replies will direct you to the sway bar bushings. They're easy to get to, I took mine off, cleaned them, and lubed them with silicon grease (they did need it), but it did not solve the problem.

I pinpointed mine to the right rear suspension components, so next I removed rear tire and sprayed silicone lubricant around the bushings on the upper and lower, what I'll call A-frame assemblies. Took it for a test drive and no squeak.

But the next day I take it out and squeak is back. I've gone through this procedure a number of times sice, each time it immediately stops the squeak, but it is back within a day or two.

Now I don't know what to do next. Do I try to remove those bushings to lubricate? I don't know how difficult that would be, and whether I would be able to handle it. Or do I install one of these Poly bushing kits I see advertised?

I'll be watching to see what kind of replies you get here, too.

One other thing you both might want to check is the drivers seat. I have a squeak that comes from the seat now and then. I figure I'll get to it this fall once I take the car off the road for the winter.

Try the upper left shock mount.

Yea, I've got that squeak, too, once in a while. But this one is definitely from the suspension, because it goes away when freshly sprayed with silcone lube.

Anyway, thanks.

at least I'm not alone in this! its driving me crazy. what's the best way to lube these things? it sounds like silicone spray isn't enough, do I need to remove some bolts to get grease into the contact areas on the rubber? I already sprayed down everything I could see in there that was rubber, it didn't have much of an effect. its embarrassing to give anyone a ride.

Spraying down the surface is no guarantee that the lubricant will penetrate to the surfaces generating the noise. Have you physically unbolted the sway bar bushings, greased and reinstalled?

Has anyone tried using teflon tape instead of grease?
It seems like at least the tape would stay in place, and would not attract dirt.
